I've spent the past few months deciding what I want to buy next and figured a truck would be most practical for my needs. I've looked at all the brands and really thought I was settled on a 2500 Ram but came to my senses. Ended up getting a really too good to pass up offer and jumped on it. The truck is a 2013 with the smaller 4.6l and 4x4. Only 55k miles on the odometer, this truck had an easy life. The gentleman who had it prior was the original owner, bought the truck new. I kid you not when I say that the truck still smells new inside. He's had towels on the seats from day one. Over time, he's added a set of TRD wheels, a bed cover and the TRD side steps. Otherwise, the truck is stock and by stock, I mean it doesn't even have Bluetooth on the radio. I paid $16k for the truck and ran before he changed his mind.

    Some things I want to do to it;

    * Bumper guard of some sort. I want to mount some rally style halogens up front or over the top for some night driving I do in Tennessee.
    * Change the headlights to the 2018 Sequoia LED. I hate the stock headlights. They are bright but ugly IMO.
    * Install a chase bar that will hold some antennas for some radios I plan to install, GMRS and some HF stuff. No CB.
    * MAYBE do a 4" lift from either FabTech or BDS. This
    * Wheels from Method. These in 18x9 18/5.75"
    * Some other minor stuff like a head unit from the current century and some features from the platinum model like heated seats, climate cont and the leather steering wheel.

For starters, I read that the tailgate can me converted to electronic lock so I don't have to use my key. I'll search around but curious if anyone has done this. While im in there, I want to install the factory backup camera, I'll connect it later but would like to have it in there and wired.

    Thanks for looking!

Regarding the headlights, how many options were there? On my light switch, there are only two options. A marker (DRL?) and the main headlights. Was there another headlight option? I'm looking at the 2018 Sequoia head lights and it seems like they have the DRL's and than two more light options? Is there a thread someone can link me to regarding this conversion?

Thanks Pat, I already watched your video and subbed. If you don't mind me asking, what is the OEM part number? Although I don't mind after market, I always try to use OEM parts especially if they are plug and play.

It truly is spotless. Aside from a small dent in the drivers side door, there isn't a single scratch on the whole truck. My first order of business will be to have the body clay bared, color corrected and then ceramic coated. The under body needs to be treated before winter too.

No worries, I noticed that its for the 3rd gen. I'll have to do some digging to see if the option was even available on the 2nd gen. I may not have a choice but to do the aftermarket path. The thing I like about toyota is they don't change things, not for centuries. They use the same components across the platform so hopefully the power gate lock was available on the plat for the 2nd gen.

So something someone taught me once to prevent or at least discourage someone from walking off with your tailgate. Buy a pair of worm gear clamps, big enough to fit around the hinges of your tailgate. Install them around the hinges of your tailgate. Put JB weld or another tough glue into the screw driver slot so a screw driver can't be inserted. He said someone tried to walk off with his tailgate, he caught them on camera but they had no luck getting the tailgate off because he had these worm gear clamps on. Saved him a couple grand for about $1.25 in clamps.

Ok, so take a look at these two images. The top handle assembly is from the 2019 model and the bottom, from a 2013 model. I'm having a hard time finding the difference. Will the handle from the 2019 fit onto the tailgate of a 2013?

I'm seriously thinking about getting the cheap $30 aftermarket one just to see if its fits.

Can anyone tell me please, what is this connector/cable for? It's under the bed of the truck, towards the back by the bumper and spare tire. It's right next to the hole where the wires would feed into the tailgate. Would this be the connector for the backup camera? It's currently got a cap plug on it to keep the connector clean.

Check out the McGard tailgate lock. Around $25. I can defeat worm gear clamps in a heart beat, especially cheap ones.

Yeah, that's actually exactly what I got. I wanted something that had some rubber to protect the paint and ran across the McGuard.

I want to put the 4.5" CO BDS lift kit on the truck but I need to save up the $4k. In the meantime, I want to put a leveling kit on. In particular, this one here. Will I have to do an alignment?

What size tires can I run with nothing but a lift kit and not trimming any body parts?

Without running outside to look at my 2013 to double check, I'm pretty sure that is for your backup camera. Sounds like the right spot for it.

I think so too. Looking at the connector that plugs into the camera, it looks to be the same six pin connector. I think the other end of it is behind the overhead console. If I remember correct, the camera video out goes to either the mirror or the tiny drop down monitor.

What a mint Tundra! Looks new. I love my 4.6L, the gas mileage is solid despite my mods and its still plenty of power. Those TRD OR wheels look great. Some of my favorite OEM Toyota wheels. I picked up a set for my Tundra as well and plastidipped them matte black. I definitely vote that you get the Sequoia LED's. Can't beat OEM quality compared to the aftermarket options.

I always try to get oem first. The money they put into the testing and development is more than most aftermarket except for odm. I think I'm gonna do the grill first from the TRD Pro sequoia. Then the lights.

The Morimoto XB leds would be alot cheaper than the Sequoia conversion.

I'm seriously looking to install a remote start. What gets good reviews? Is there a good for all remote that's working well for everyone? Not looking for anything special, don't need 2 miles of range. Just need something that will start the truck and won't shut off when I open the door, I don't want to restart the truck, just put my key in and go.
