To change the plastic oil filter cap to the metal one or disconnect my seat belt chime. They cite liability reasons. Jeebus. Such a nanny state..

Depending on how involved you want to get... you may want to pick up a copy and install it on an old laptop. It gives you full dealer-level access.

I was able to turn off the seat belt beep on my wife's Prius. Was also able to program a new key fob -- which saved me a couple hundred bucks.

get the seat belt extender from the dealer, they're free due to "safety". They're available in 8", 10", and 12" lengths if I remember correctly. Tell them it's needed for a car seat, or very fat uncle.

My dealer did charge me a $4.95 shipping fee, but it's a cleaner look than the "cut credit card" option. I think I got the 12", but it really doesn't matter.

The dealer will require a VIN.

Additionally, believe it or not Toyota changed the buckle insert between years '18 and '19. I have a '19, and the dealer ordered the part # for an '18, even though i provided the VIN. It did not fit. Re-ordered for a '19... I've since forgotten what the reminder beep, buzz, or chime sounds like.

Not really sure I understand why it's a big deal to wear a seatbelt even if it's just a short 2 mile driveway. Is it really that big of a hassle?

Change the filter cover yourself when you do the oil change. It’s not that hard and you can get the parts on Amazon.

Do you have to get in and out of your truck to open gates? Obviously not. I could disable it on my 2009 Tacoma but not on the 2013 Tacoma or the Tundra. Toyota (I think intentionally) took the capability away from the owner in 2012 I believe. This is just stupid because people are going to come up with their own fixes not all of which will be totally safe. Dealer would not disable my 2013 Tacoma so I just unplugged it under the seat. Only problem with that is the passenger side was no disabled and as soon as we got to the first gate on the hunting ranch I would have to reach over and fasten the passenger belt. I don't have a problem with fastening the belt behind me but I normally forget when leaving the ranch then I either struggle to do it while driving or just listen to the beep until the first stop.

I didn't know this till today, but if you raise up off the seat after taking the seal belt off. It will reset the alarm and it will be silent again until you get up to speed again.

I can see OP's frustration. I am a construction project manager and drive around on construction sites. Sometimes road construction several miles long; stop every 50 or 100 feet to check something, get back in, drive at 5 or 10 mph to the next stop, get out, get in, drive etc...... The freakin thing beeps the whole time. I am not going to fasten my seat belt every time I get in. I don't even close the door every time I move because I know I am going to stop within the next 50 feet. It would be nice to have an override button, even if you have to reset it every time you start the truck, if that's needed for safety reasons.

Op for what it's worth, my dog sits in the front seat and would set the seat belt chime off every time he got in. Got tired of it having to buckle the passenger belt every time and told the dealer, they disabled it for me...

It is stupid they cant disable it and they are just covering their ass.

I like busting OPs balls due to how he presented it.

But there are a hundred ways to do it.

You have to remember that it is a different world now where if someone burns themselves on coffee it is a payday
