Ya that's pretty rough. Insurance should take care of it though. Where did it happen?

If you are in CA, you are in for a bad time.

The way I figure, if my cats walk, my insurance will cover it with a $500 deductible. It would cost at least that much to put shields on, so since I'm paying for insurance let them give me money for a change, and I won't have the hassle of buying and fitting the shields on. This old body doesn't like working on cars anymore.

Sounds logic if folks had parts. I rather pay for the shields and have my truck. Lots of folks are going 6 months without their truck since there are still parts shortages.
But do what you think is best for you.

I have another vehicle (Hybrid) that is my daily driver. I use my Tundra mainly to tow my travel trailer. Love the MPG on the Hybrid!

Cept…that $500 deductible costs you exponentially more as years go by cause insurance companies jack your rate up due to a claim (they always win).

And, the parts are tough to come by which means you’re out a truck for a while.

Not to mention, @CTB Mike only uses his Tundra to haul his travel trailer.
How bad would it suck to be XXXX miles away from home and have to tow both the truck and the trailer back to the house.:eek2:

As @RobertD stated, it isn't like cat parts are readily available at Toyota dealerships.
It took 8 months to get mine.
It was by the grace of God Toyota paid for my loaner for 7 months of that 8.

The shields are worth a piece of mind knowing if you park your truck ANYWHERE unattended for 1 minute or more, that you're likely not to be a victim of cat theft.
They could be stolen as one sleeps inside their travel trailer and be gone before one could get out the door.
It's actually more of a common sense issue than a monetary issue.
    As in anything, YMMV..

    Aftermarket installed. Magnaflow/ 2 o2 sensors
$2419+$500 for theft protection installed. Could have done straight pipe, but doesn’t that screw with the fuel ratio stuff since no o2 sensors?

That sux! And welcome to the club of cat theft victims. All for of mine were stolen from my 2011 CM in well-lit hotel parking lot in January of '22. I was fortunate that the local dealer had or could get all of the parts and get them replaced in 3 days - over $5400 for parts and labor. Fortunately insurance covered the replacements. When I got home I ordered a full set of Valhalla Shield plates. It was a long wait for them but happy that I have them since my truck sits in the driveway at night. It looks like you got after-market replacement cats quickly since the rising # of thefts have put a real strain on Toyota's supply chain.

This is EXACTLY why I put cat shields on my truck. We're traveling with our trailer next weekend and I really want my truck to be able to tow the trailer home when we're ready. My peace of mind is worth every dime spent.

I'm sorry that this happened to you too. Some people suck.

Your logic neglects all the downtime and hassle. Also, if they stole them once...what makes you think it won't happen twice? I've read more than a couple stories of replacement cats not lasting a week.

Hope the dreaded CE light doesn't come on.
Seems pretty common with aftermarket cats.

    Good luck.
