So, kind of accidentally sold my Ford 7.3 Sportsmobile earlier this year. That van was awesome, but it was big, loud, pretty much dedicated to camping, and 18 years old. I also couldn’t carry anything inside.. a sheet of plywood would not fit.

Someone approached me on another forum about a van, we started talking, and he ended up deciding to buy my van. I wasn’t looking to sell necessarily, but open to the idea.

I looked at various new van options (I love vans, but need 4x4), and had bought a Sprinter 4x4 last year, but didn’t like it, and after getting stuck in my driveway, knew the 4x4 was insufficient.

So enter pickups. Looked at Ford, looked at Toyota, wont look at Chevy, don’t care for the look of the Dodges. I was interested in the Ford F-250, but I could not get the one I wanted (extra cab with adaptive cruise control - they will not make them - even special order). So based on Toyota’s reputation (I’ve never owned one before - in fact I’ve never owned a Japanese truck before - 2 Ford pickups, 2 Dodge pickups, and 2 Ford 4x4 vans - although I’ve also owned for short periods 2 4x4 Sprinters and a handful of other 4x4 Ford Sportsmobiles - I’ve also spent extensive time in several Ford F-350s) and the pricing on Toyotas being very favorable to the American trucks.... I bought a brandy new Tundra.

2019 Limited Doublecab with various TRD bits - intake, exhaust, sway bar, skid plate...

Love it so far, a mere 2000 miles in, but I’ve started on projects!

Plans from the start were new stereo, bumper with winch, Baja Designs lighting, ICON mid travel kit, and a Vagabond Nomad camper.

    More to come....

I was the first retail order placed for the Nomad, but I’m still months and months away. And every night I spend in a tent I’m sad... thinking back to the good old days in my van.

Yes, San Francisco.. and no, no room in the garage for the truck. Which is fine, it’s unlikely to fit anyway.

First, which I forgot to mention on my project plan above (I’m a few Corpse Revivers in), was to get rid of all the damn chrome. I was amazed at the amount of cheap plastic chrome on all the trucks today. Let it go!

So TRD Pro Grill, blacked out badges and mirrors were quickly ordered up...

Nice looking truck. I have the same color and I'm almost finished the dechroming myself. Did you get your new grill from sparks parts?

Welcome. Man I saw that first pic and it took me back. I used to live in Upper Haight. Sure don't miss the ole street sweeper scramble and parking hunt. Nice truck.

Looking great so far. Love the cement! The grill replacement was the first thing I did too and never looked back. No-chrome all the way

How did you paint the grill? My buddy @ShawnydeLight has a cement tundra and bought the new pro grill but can't find anyone to paint/vinyl it.

Bought black. Seemed easier and longer lasting.

Although now I’m not sure why I didn’t just take the chrome ones off and leave it.
