Toss it, but you may have some rub spots in the paint. I have run them before and really did not see any benefit.

They will not do anything to deflect bugs as it is advertised, but it will protect from rocks flying up and chipping the paint.

@LASurf let's be honest. You're going to sell that truck by the summer anyways. :boink:

But here is what I wrote about my bug deflector last year.

"I feel the same way about my bug guard. It came with the truck. I never would have purchased one. But I've grown to like it. On most 18 year old trucks, the hoods are completely trashed by rocks. Mine looks new. And I don't know if it actually deflects bugs, but I seem to get fewer than any vehicle I've ever owned. The Rav4's hood started to get really beat up so I actually added a bug deflector to try and save what's left of the paint."

I can't speak to his, but on my truck, the bug deflector doesn't even touch the painted part of the hood. No chance of rub marks.

Taking them off can be a pain! Double sided tape, depending on age can be tough. Also good chance the paint has been damaged underneath. Mine fell off and I had no choice but to put it back on from the paint damage.

I personally like the looks of these on our trucks.

Yours must be different than mine. The one I have says Toyota on it, so I'm guessing the original owner put it on when new. It doesn't use any double sided tape.

OEM (yes, it's an OEM part in Canadsa) was terrible for potential paint staining.

    REMOVE IT.

Mine is also Toyota and also assuming on since day one. No rock chips and Toyota glass too. I'll keep it for now (@FirstGenVol, to be clear we are talking about the part not the truck. Truck is, all together now, for-e-ver)

It was on when I bought it (8 years ago). Uses double sided tape. Probably a few styles exist. Didn't even know their were oem versions.

My paint is definitely trashed where the double sided tape is.

Having a bug deflector actually does help from someone who’s been using one for 15 years. Know how? When the clear coat gets thin enough on your hood from age and weather, pebbles from the highway will bounce off the hood and easily chip your paint. That is where it really helps in protecting it.

Does it work for bugs? Who knows....driving through a swarm of locusts, I can definitely tell you, it does not. :D

I would rather have that to help prevent dings and chips (not from bugs), than having my chrome.
But i do rock a stache anyway lol

Dead stock with oem 16" starfish wheels. We'll see how long that lasts. :) Topper of unknown origin.
HP Hood protector, a port installed option on my truck. I can't say I'm crazy about it but it's there and hasn't hurt anything so I'm leaving it stock for my spectacular BaT payday.

It depends on what you would rather have, rock chips on the hood, or windshield.

Are you saying the bug deflector will divert rocks to the windshield? Hasn't been my experience. Pretty sure my 2002 has the original windshield and I'm also pretty sure the bug deflector has been on there since new.
