I have flowmaster 40series dual exhaust right now and I am thinking to delete them. But I am not sure if it’s going to be more loud or same. Any thoughts???

Loud! Your neighbors won't like you. This is not a loud pipes saves lives thing. You can try it but it will be a oh-my moment.

I ran some shorty headers open on a 5.9 dodge for an evening waiting for the muffler shop to open. If youre looking for attention thatll get it for you no doubt.

When I got my first BAM from @dirtydeeds I busted a nut :eek2: on the front clamp and had to go the parts store to buy another one.
My 2014 5.7 ran like sh!t with no muffler on the end of the stock manifold pipes just going to the auto parts store and back....YMMV

I got my muffler deleted.. calm during idle and easy acceleration but loud and rowdy when doing wide open throttle.

I found this to be a helpful video when choosing an exhaust for my sons 2021

Reminds me of the time I bought a '95 F250 PowerStroke 7.3L diesel...with a muffler delete. That sucker scared animals and small children prior to me putting a muffler back on it.

Back in mid 90s I purchased a Dodge Ram 4x4 Sport, had dual exhaust installed, no mufflers. I got compliments on that truck every time I drove it. Sounded amazing, loud but not crazy and it had amazing depth of sound. Of course it looked the part too, lifted and on 35s.

Times have changed and the po-po will be all over straight pipe exhaust now. Not to mention the changes in tech, your truck may not run as well without some backpressure in the exhaust.

I did a muffler delete within the first week of obtaining my Tundra. Good reviews from co-workers who hear me driving up. The neighbors haven't complained about the sound... surprising since I usually leave for work at 5am. No issues with a ticket thus far, but then again I haven't been obnoxious about accelerating when driving by police officers.

If it's not the muffler delete that will get me... the tinted front windows and windshield will eventually lead to that - LOL

For those that have done the muffler delete. Did you just install a Y pipe in place of the muffler or did you do dual exhaust?

Which ties back into the stock tailpipe. It doesn’t lose low end torque. To the contrary, it gains low end torque, horsepower and throttle response.

if you just cut out the muffler and let the exhaust dump from there, that’s where the problem is.

If you run dual exhaust without long tube headers, with or without a muffler, you lose more low end torque than it’s worth. Your stock manifolds want a single exhaust.

what is a reasonable price for someone to cut out my muffler and replace with a straight pipe? I know the GM guys are having great success with only the flapper and resonator.

I wouldn't cut it out and run straight pipe. @dirtydeeds is our exhaust guy.

If you like it super loud just do it. It shouldn’t cost more than $200

I've had great success with just replacing the factory muffler with either a straight pipe or a glasspack.

I bought a `97 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor in Seattle for $2500. On the 300 mile drive home, I stopped in a little muffler shop and had them replace the factory dual mufflers with straight pipes. That was the absolute best sound exhaust I have ever had!

I will probably just take my Tundra to Meineke and have them do a muffler delete to see how it sounds. I'm not bothered by loud exhaust, as long as the tone is good. With these new resonators and catalytic converters, you don't hardly need a muffler.

    Funny story...

    I bought my first car in 1985; a 1970 Ford Torino 2dr coupe with a 302 2V V8. 210 roaring horsepower. I paid $300 for that car.

I of course decided that I needed dual exhaust, but in 1985, a quality dual exhaust system was $200. So I decided to just piece together a straight pipe system. It looked cool, but was horrifically loud, lol. It dumped right under the doors in the middle of the car.

    A7qjOV0ER1SmMV7QpQZ34Q.jpg

That summer, I got a job at the University of Idaho cleaning dorm rooms. It was about a mile away from my house. I had to report to work at 7:30am every day.
A couple of weeks into the job, my dad mentioned that while he was in the kitchen having breakfast, he could hear me start up my car, drive it across town to work, and then shut it off when I parked. He suggested that I may want to use some of my wages to purchase mufflers before the neighbors got too mad. I did.

Did it sounded great and not as loud as you'd expect until on it. Couple vids here below. I've now added some straight through mufflers and deleted the secondary cats. But sounds very similar
