Calling on all you wiring gurus out there. Will the below wiring schematic work???

I'm planning to add some BD S2's to the rear bumpers. I want to use an 'On-Off-On' toggle switch so I can turn them on at any time using one of the On's, and have them come on when in reverse using the other On.

    Thanks in advance!!!

    Thanks bud!
So just to be clear then, that would leave the 87 for the tapping into the tail light?

87a is normally closed with 30 so you can control it with the rocker switch that’s ok

Then when your reverse lights is triggered 30 will make contact with 87

86 is the positive side (Reverse lights + wire) magnetizing the coil and 85 Ground it

One other thought/question. For the inline fuse, I was thinking a 15 or 20A would be the best?

15A should be ok to be safe

I found a video for you

This is a great wiring example, if you go with your diagram it will need a few diodes to isolate the reverse bulb

Ha...thanks! I just watched this last week. From the looks of it, his set up is designed to only come on with the reverse lights.
I want to have the on-off-on capability. One 'on' as independent, the other 'on' with the reverse lights.

I have found what I’m talking about, you will need diodes to isolate the reverse lights, (To avoid 12V passing and powering recerse bulb when aux lights powered by switch) the pdf have attached all the option you can go for your project.

No, your drawing is not going to work.

If you take a look at your switch, it will do nothing but dead short the battery in any position other than off. This is because 87a and 30 are normally closed meaning they are connected unless the coil is energized (pins 85 & 86) which per your drawing will only be when you're in reverse. Here is the schematic to the relay you are trying to use.
    relay3.jpg

Notice all your switch will be doing is dead shorting the battery and you will be popping those fuses constantly.

Not really sure why you are trying to use an on-off-on switch when really all you need is an on-off-on switch with a that is switching 12v to pin 85 with a diode to keep the reverse light from coming on when you have the switch on.

This is how it should be done for what you are trying to do. Not as pretty as your drawing but it will do.

    Thanks for the info!
    I understand the on-off would suffice. My thought with the on-off-on switch was;
When I'm off road and needing more light when backing up, I didn't want to have to be switching them on and off all the time. And in the event I go in reverse with them on, and forget to turn them off, they'll go out once I go into drive.

Take a look at the second to last page of the PDF @iHacker attached. I think that schematic is what I was trying to draw.

I'm a dummy, I didn't understand that you only wanted the aux lights during backup when you have the switch on (hence the on off on switch). I already started the new drawing and will post it when I'm done just for giggles.

No sir...I'm the dummy. Hence the reason I made this thread. I know there's a bunch of wizards on here.

Here is the drawing I made for your setup. With this way, diodes are not needed because the two ways of powering the coil are separated by the switch. Hope this helps you out.

Perfect...that matches the schematic on the PFD @iHacker shared. Now I'll be able to relax and drink a beer when I do this install.
    Thanks again!! :hattip:
