I bought a 2021 Platinum. Yes, I know it's a gas guzzler. But, does averaging 9.8 miles around town sound right? I'm not driving aggressively and everything is stock. I haven't taken it on the highway yet, so not sure what that will do to MPG. Do new Tundras take some time to break in and therefore the mpg improve? Or, is it just is what it is? No worries either way. Just curious.

Are you looking at the dashboard reading?

I would go with actual mpg...ie, reset trip odometer at fill-up, drive all you want, then upon filling up again, divide miles driven by amount of gas used.

But yes, that seems a little low to me.

Around town is gonna be worst with stop and go and slow inefficient speeds.

Yes, that's just using the dashboard reading. I'm still on the first tank of gas, so I'll try your method next time and compare.

Nothing abnormal about that...especially when you are sitting in traffic or get stuck at a lot of lights.

For perspective I get about 17 mpg’s on average in my RAV4 (36 miles highway/6 miles of sheer hell in dead stopped traffic) daily.

I have a '21 with about 2K miles and right now I average around 15 mpg, 17 when I Grandma it. Just give it a little time and the dash reading will level out to normal levels.

This is my first tundra 21. Seems like all the Toyota I have had give it time to break in. I was getting 17 on the highway with my 2020 4runner Pro and also had 285’s on. If I get 17 on the highway with my tundra I will be fine with that. I drive it mostly highway.

After 55k I was average 19.5 on my 2017 4Runner. 17 isn’t too bad at all especially with 285’s and not being broken in. I can easily get 17 plus on the highway with the Tundra but you have to keep it around 70 mph. Hills and traffic will definitely lower it.

Only thing I've added so far are Nfab side steps, so an extra 90 lbs or so. Other than that all stock. I'm sure that number will drop when I add a level and tires though.

I'm about to do the same. Putting a leveling kit, Fuel Tactic 18", and debating between the Cooper Rugged Trek and the Cooper ATS XLT. Thinking Rugged Trek because I don't think I need to trim or cut. But, kinda like the XLT because they might be quieter. What have you been thinking?

Seriously? Just drive it and enjoy it.

Don't make me post my list again as I'd have to update it with another 45 threads since the last MPG? thread. :censored:

I am just driving it and enjoying it. I prefaced that in my original post. Besides, isn't there a post about literally everything on here? At what point is there something really new?

Cooper XLT's are on my short list as well as Wildpeaks and K02's. A lot will depend on what size I end on going with. Can't decide between 275/70/18 or 295/70/18.

If it is heavy stop and go city traffic my MPGs plummet to around 10MPG. Getting a big heavy vehicle up to speed eats up a lot of gas.

I was thinking about the 295/70's, but I don't the tire coming outside the wheel well. Not sure they will at 12 inches in width, but the Tactics have a +20 offset. They may just a touch. I do like the 34.25 diameter though. What I like about the Rugged Peak's is that you can get a 275/70, which is only 11.1 in width but gets you to 33.66 in diameter.

Yea you might get a little poke with the +20 295's. I'm sticking with the stock +60 TRD wheels for now so I'm not really concerned with them sticking out. My bigger concern with the 295's is the hit on MPG/performance. But I don't think it would be that much worse then a E load 275/70 so might as well go bigger right lol. IMO these trucks look absolutely perfect with a level/small lift and 295/70's.

    True...but it's not Twitter.

You can add to existing threads for history reference and research. The info is a lot more accessible and searchable when people do that.

I have about 2k on my 2021. I average 16.5 when taking it easy (under 60mph, no hard stops or fast starts) when I drive it like I am used to I average about 13mpg. This is not based on what the dash shows, but my own calculation since I log my gas fill-ups for work.

My dash said about 10 mpg when I first got the truck due to extended idling at the dealership before I took it home. Now it says about 17 mpg. I doubt either is correct.

Just a new Tundra owner trying to get some feedback. I've already spent days and days looking at all the posts on tires, wheels, lifts vs level, etc., so I decided to post on this one rather than search. But, I get your frustration with newbies. You've been on here for 7 years. Hell, you're member #378. I imagine it gets really annoying to see the same thing over, and over, and over again.

I just got a '21 TRD Sport. Just added the 6112/5100 lift and 33's. Got 15.7 on the drive in this morning (35 miles). Usually average between 14-16.

    Or.....................don't click on the thread?

Perhaps something new like a thread to list all the post already here as to prevent any new threads or questions already covered?

Or a "New" topic that lists all the people that complain and chastise new owners for asking a question that has already been asked?

or.......perhaps trying out our Search function first. It's not perfect but it is certainly easy to find a lot of info on mpg's among many other things.
No chastising going on at all. Simply pointing out the fact that there is a wealth of info on this forum including all you need to know about mpg's.

If feel your pain. There is a lot info here and can take up a lot time. I happen to average around 10+ in town.
