We don’t have a set tradition, and it changes year to year, as my son gets older. Tonight we will hold him hostage and get him to watch Castaway with us. Tomorrow, although he has demonstrated ability to make a manly breakfast, I’m anticipating bagels with cream cheese, lox, and capers. When he was a little guy, he’d make homemade cards or teacher-organized ‘mom gifts’, but otherwise, we don’t do much in the way of gifts.

    What are your plans?

Awesome! Dinner at home is the best, especially if Mom doesn’t have to prepare it!

We don't usually do anything special for B-days, anniversaries, etc but our son wanted to get together, so we are meeting at a local restaurant for an early dinner combining my b-day (last Thurs), my wife's b-day (Wed), and Mom's day.

Is castaway a tradition? It’s a good movie, and I will never look at ice skates the same!
Gam gam took the boys last night, so we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant, it was oh so tasty!
Tomorrow the boys will “help” make coffee, then I’ll cook a bunch of bacon to take to……..maybe my sisters house? Where we will have breakfast, and super excited to top my sisters gift with some Trekkie memorabilia from @Tundra2
Then come back and have shredded beef tacos with her mom and bro, my old ladies bro not moms bro…..

I might have slapped you if they chose Guadalajara grill……..
We went to Rosa’s. Usually 2 tea spoons of garlic powder per tomato in their salsa.
El charro is good and they also have a lot of other local spots too

You need to, it’s a staple! My friend always hates and asks why there, guad is a fucking tourist destination…….
He claims the family are/were fisherman……. But this is AZ, let’s be real, it’s not fresh….. so he always orders a seafood item, which look good. But not my bag.

Nope. But we’ve made a bit of a habit of selecting movies for Mothers’ Day and birthdays that my son wouldn’t otherwise tolerate… Legally Blond is a repeat favourite ….

We just did an “island” vacation… and my son, who is addicted to playing basketball, was gutted at the prospect of 2 weeks without. Plus, he was the youngest on the trip by several decades— poor guy! Despite his great attitude, he was having withdrawals, not playing basketball. So we wound up searching for a regulation basketball— then paid a fortune for the only one available on Ua Pao. Although it was a Mikasa brand, when I saw how his entire demeanor lifted as soon as he held it, I promptly named it ‘Wilson’. Every adult on the trip got the reference and chuckled, but he didn’t get the joke. Anyway, gotta tie up that loose end by letting him in on the punchline.

Ohh, yeah, I’d forgotten about the ice skate <cringe>

That sounds like a great day! The few traditions I grew up with pretty much died with my grandmothers. My son is 15 and lives in his head. So as he’s gotten older, I’ve let go of some expectations— decided I’d rather claim our fairly regular movie night, than push unrealistic expectations for him to perform so I can maintain a tradition. We had a great time with him on that recent vacation— when we get him away from home and his internet routines, he is very good company— so I’m still cherishing that time.

The kind that is better gone! I had one of those, btw, left when I was 3 and my sister was 2. Her getting custody when I was 9 just fucked up all the years between then and 18. Good riddance!

And good job, Dad, being the best parent!!

It’s actually for work, but it’s work that she loves doing. Ice Rescue. Some of their gear didn’t make it yet, so she has Ben spending the days with the locals snowmobiling through the mountains in the northern section of the country.

I grilled bacon wrapped fillets, chicken, burgers, and corn for the family. Set up the new sandbox for the kids and still found time to replace a faulty bank2 02 sensor on my first gen.

    Perfect!

It will either be a good day or a bad day. We are empty nesters so either the wife and the girlfriends reminds our boys they have a mother will depend on the how the day will turn. Still have my mom around so she is coming over for steamed crab legs and shrimp. Got her a little flower and a new blouse for church. Got my wife a little something too….just in case

No traditions in our family. I was in isolation until today but luckily I got my wife a present the week before last and she got our moms presents on Friday. I guess I'll pop out to grab a card, make pancakes for breakfast and order in the dinner she requested from one of our favourite local ghost kitchens.

We usually get together and have lunch or dinner. I’m cooking for my Mom and Mother in law this evening. Gonna fry up some fresh crappie that I caught.
