Took a cow last year, this time I collected a 5X5, not the world's biggest elk, but a first for me.

    Nice kill!!!

I miss living in the NW.

Actual seasons other than summer, rainy summer, hells inferno summer, rainy summer again, and a week or two of fall.

Deer / elk that are actually worth going after. Not these pigmy dogs with antlers from the grinch that stole Christmas.

    Mountains.

    Did I mention weather?

Fly fishing. Although there are places here that you can do this. It’s not the same.

Great hunting right there! We have stomped some of the same ground. I mostly was just north of Wilsall, west of Lewistown, Judith River Basin mostly.

How did the Tundra do up there in the terrain? My 12 CM with BFG's did rather well.

No troubles at all, two years running, last year I took a fat cow, drove the CM so the brother and I could haul meat home.

Brother has a son in Missoula, we drove over first last year, my first time ever in mountain passes with heavy snow, we did put on studded snow tires and had not trouble at all, though the pucker was a little tight a time or two. Teenagers with skis passing me in Subarus was not all that good for the self image, but I got where I was going, this year, no snow at all...this year we hunted first and carried my nephew a cooler full of elk...

The mountain passes can be a little nerve racking, especially over the Continental Divide.

Smart choice on tires. I have just started running snow tires in the winter on our Subaru, and that thing is nothing short of amazing in the snow and ice. I wouldn't feel bad about a Subaru passing you either. They are great in those conditions, and people drive way to fast in the snow anyway.

Had a Trooper stop me as we started up a pass, guess he saw the Tennessee tags..he wanted to let me know I needed chains, but when he saw we had the studded tires he let us go on.

The State Troopers take that very seriously. So many issues per year, and lives lost. Montana is no place to go unprepared for sure.

Colorado now is enforcing new chain laws for non-commercial vehicles and the fines would buy a new set of snow tires.
