    Hey fellas,

Is it a thing that the MGM TRD Pro Grills aren't always a perfect match to the hood? I noticed it on mine, and I seem to notice it on others who post their photos around here. I debated selling it locally to try another order, but I have a feeling its just not worth it.

    Anyone else?

Unless the paint comes out of the same batch and is applied at the same time, it can be hard to match 100%. Even a year of sun fade and exposure can lighten paint. Touch up paint is often not a 100% match, but close. On the bright side your grill looks way better than factory chrome!

    Yup this.

Especially with darker or brighter colors. They fade. Plus, you have metallic paint so that flake will throw it off as well.

I'd prefer not to say. Not that you will blow it up, but someone probably would.

It’s never going to be perfect even if you had your whole front end painted. The surround is plastic and the hood being metal the paint bonds different. That being said yours looks way off. More than mine was.

May just be the pic, but sure seems like it should be a closer match than that. I could see a shade or 2, but that looks like several shades.

My Cement color grill is pretty damn close, not a perfect match but very close..

As an experienced Auto Body Painter I can tell you that for 1....Gray metallics are notorious for not matching....#2....plastic absorbs paint differently than sheet metal....thats why the color is off.....Brand new cars on the lot at dealerships....bumpers are off in color to the quarter panels for this very reason I stated.

That's the most dramatic pic I could find. In person it's not as bad. Good information, I'll likely just settle with it.

My bulge (bought separate from truck) is pretty close, but not perfect. The bumper caps are also not perfect (don't have them on the truck yet) but holding them up next to the paint look fairly close.

Yes. This is why I had my stock parts PTM. Mine are matched to the paint on the metal surfaces, as opposed to the same paint for both. You cannot tell a difference with mine.

You can see a slight difference. Your grille shroud is a bit darker

    Nothing.
I have a '15 Fusion and the rear bumper cover is not even kinda close to the dark grey metallic that the quarters are painted. In the sun it's atrocious. If I had noticed it on the lot I would have picked another color...yuck.

MGM changes a lot in varying light and for sure different panel angles can look like a different color. BUT my Pro grill in MGM matches much better than that. surprisingly so because my hood was painted after a deer impact!

Get some bigger aggressive tires and get rid of the old man chrome and the color differences won’t bother you anymore

Hey Robo. Just saw this thread. I used production off road on v beach Blvd down near 1st colonial to paint my fender flares.
Stop by there and maybe they can paint it for you and get a better match. Guy there is cool af. Just a thought.

How much for the bumper caps painted? I've talked to them a few times about things, just haven't pulled the trigger. They painted right over the chrome?

It was the bushwhacker fender flares. $400 attitude black. They mix the paint there so I would think they could adjust it to match pretty close. If you need bumper caps done I'm sure they can do that as well. I would say powder coat for the bumper caps tho since they take a beating from road debris.

AHh oh I read that wrong. Agree about the end caps - which is why I asked. Was curious how they went about painting chrome and it not completely sucking.

    Thanks!

I am curious as well about getting my end caps powder coated and not flaking off the chrome.
