The reason given for the attack: Lead car didn't accelerate fast enough for the following car when the light changed green, so the driver followed the lead car into the gas station to attack him.

Note: This would never happen to me - my green light reaction time is lightning fast.

    1) if someone is following you, don't pull over and get out of your vehicle.
    2) if you are backed into a corner, riddle them with lead.

No way I'd drive though ATL unarmed.

Seems like the perfect time to cycle a few rounds. Being careful not to hit a pump and blow up whole station.

Being from Atlanta, I can say that while traffic sucks, it's generally safe. I did the rush hour commute for 15+ years before moving away and never had any serious road rage encounters. The article does say the victim yelled back at the guy and punched him in self defense. Thinking maybe he punched first then the dude got his machete?

Glad everyone made it out alive!

I can remember in the mid '80s going to see Buffett and hanging out at Underground. Wouldn't think of it nowadays.

A group of us traveled to Atlanta from Columbia, SC for a Buffett show in '88 I think - no problems at all, good times.

I'm an Atlanta native, born and raised, lived here all my life. This type of thing is sad to see but could happen in many big cities. I live up in Alpharetta, which is generally considered to be a nice place but a few months back there was a domestic issue that boiled over and played out at the Wells Fargo right in downtown Alpharetta. The man followed the woman up to the bank, she was hitting the ATM and he shot and killed her right in the parking lot. I live a couple of blocks away from that bank and heard all the responders that day. It hit close to home for sure.

Turns out, an older gentlemen was also there that day and was CCW, he held the killer on the ground till police arrive. Police picked up the perp without any further issues.

We always knew we wanted to leave Atlanta eventually (when the kids were grown). I got a job offer in Greenville, SC in 2014 that moved the timeline up a bit. Last two kids had to finish high school in SC, but turned out to be the best option for all.

Lived in Marietta, Jonesboro, and Stockbridge over my 20-30 years in the Atlanta area. Included commutes to Duluth, downtown, and Buckhead.

I feel like there's very few Atlanta natives left here but i'm sure they're around somewhere. SC is a great place. I just got back from a trip to Bluffton. Love the Lowcountry towns

Inexperienced drivers can get themselves and others in trouble pretty quick, I look both ways before hitting the gas - making damn sure there is no cross traffic.

I only venture my way to Atlanta for:
    1. go to the airport
    2. go to the congress center in Jan. for annual boat show.
    3. go to the congress center in March for annual auto show.

    I hate traffic up there.

How do you like living there? We've visited a few times and thought it was a great city. The downtown is small but very clean and nice.

C’s was a great dive and good for a money game. Miss the atl

I still service clients that live downtown, over in Buckhead and up in Alpharetta. The drive to & from Athens is always wild.

Not a lot of natives in Atlanta for a long time now. Seems like if you're born or raised there you want out and the rest of the population gets transplanted in for work, school, etc.

Love it. It's taken a while to get used to things living in a smaller/slower town. Downtown Greenville is awesome (I work 2 blocks from Main St), but we bought a house 10-15 miles outside of Greenville and don't come into Greenville to enjoy the downtown area near as often as I expected to when we first moved up here.

Funny how doing anything in Atlanta is a 10+ mile drive, and probably 30+ minutes in the car, but once you get used to the slower pace in a smaller city the 10+ mile drive seems like so much more of a chore.

Saw Paul McCartney in Piedmont Park years ago. Great time, and the Gentrified Neighborhoods in the Midtown area seemed nice, never felt too threatened Downtown, but also know not to divert into hell holes anywhere.

Yep, I would have been there. At Six Flags if I'm not mistaken. I had ticket stubs for 10 years running for Buffett shows around Atlanta, Charlotte and Charleston.

Today I won't even fly though ATL unless I have to. I got a guy on our team who's always telling me to fly out of ATL, I generally tell him to go fly out of aTL himeself. I"m 3 hours from there. wTF would I drive 3 hours when I can go to GSP in an hour.

Greenville is a great area, amazing how much it's grown over the years. It has it's problems as well but not as often. They make a good showing of police force downtown, I remember a story about some punk kids trying to terrorize downtown, they got shut down pretty quickly.
