Hey guys, I'm finally getting around to replacing my cracked manifold with JBA LT headers! I have a question about this tube that is installed over the stock manifold; what is it and what do I do with it?

    Thanks!

(And yes, I lucked out with no rust on the studs :D)

Your 05-06 tundra has air injection. Your jba headers don’t. They cover the holes in the head. The extra tube may be left hanging there or unbolted from the back of the engine using a few long extensions and 10mm socket. You’ll want a HewittTech module to shut down the system so the check engine light isn’t illuminated.

Wassup, Keith?! Thanks for the answer. I'll be sending the cats back this week!

@dirtydeeds Do I leave these gaskets on? Should I replace them? There's two on each side.

Nice job getting the OEM headers off with what looks to be little drama with the manifold bolts. I have done header removals on both my Tundras (06/08) and those header bolts/studs suck.

OEM Gasket is a multi layer type so it's normal to see what looks to be 2 pieces. Definitely use new gaskets and replace the nuts with OEM if you can. The studs look to benefit from a good wire brush. Clean off the carbon build up from the head surface for a good seal. Looking forward to your driving impressions afterwards.

Yes, I think I was fortunate there. This truck has practically no rust. The new headers actually came with new gaskets, I just hadn't emptied the box completely yet. :D

I'm excited to see what it drives like as well. Between the headers and being able to breath (see my post in What Did You Do To Your Truck Today) my truck is going to think it's on steroids.

Don't use the supplied gaskets unless you like doing the job twice. OEM gaskets only. Just my 2 cents

You mean the JBA ones. Have you had issues with them?

This is first gen, oem gaskets will not seal on JBA raised port.
Remflex gaskets are the best option for the best gen tundra

I just unbolted it from the back of the engine. Do I need to cap it or anything like that?

And where's a good place to get that module?

Does anyone know if you have to remove the studs completely to get the headers on?

Hewitt technology sells the air bypass kit. They sell different one based on the engine/year of your truck. Keith told me to use the jba gaskets on my headers

Look up a seller on Ebay by the name of "Slyfox75". He sells a module that's cheap and it works. You could also pickup the block off plates from him too. I run both of his on my truck

The module and block off plates won't be here until Saturday. Is it okay to drive without them?

    Got them ordered, thanks!

Anyone know where I can get oxygen sensor extensions? Can't seem to find any.

Edit: Just found extensions on Ballenger Motorsports.

Hey guys, I keep forgetting to get on here and let you know how it went. So I got the headers installed and it's running great. I didn't dyno it before so I'm not sure what gains I got, if any, but it feels a little more powerful.

It started ticking like an exhaust leak within a day of installing but I just have to find time to tighten all of the bolts again and see if that fixes it.

Ok, so I got under it today and checked the bolts on the muffler. The bolts on this compression fitting was extremely loose, either from me or the muffler guy not tightening it, so I tightened that, but the tick is still there. My next step is to remove the tires and make sure all of the header studs are still tight.

One thing that is interesting is that it only ticks in Drive. I can start it and it sounds fine, I drive it a few feet and it starts ticking loudly and continues if I come to a stop, but as soon as I put it in Park it stops. I can even rev the engine in Park and no sound. Could this be something besides an exhaust tick, especially since I just installed new exhaust?

@FlightSimGuy Tightened up the header nuts this past weekend and it made a good difference. I don't hear the tick when driving with AC off but with AC on and windows up it's slightly audible. I'm good for now but eventually I will remove and check the flange surfaces with new gaskets. I'm running the remflex gaskets btw
