I have 2008 Tundra this now having a common issue with year model. Air injection pump and secondary pump going or I guess gone out. So far it’s just he lights on dash randomly coming on some days then off. Sometimes stays on for a week at a time but no issues with performance. From what I’ve seen on here the colder outside the more it affects the tundra. I just got this truck a few months back. Only 109,000 miles at time now 114,000. From reading here I he recall has already lapsed for me and I’ve seen comments on here it’s a $4000 fix. I was wandering if anyone has installed the bypass kit now offered and what was the labor for it. Also since my area no longer does smog inspections, could I just cut the catalytic converter off and run straight pipes to fix the problem. Thanks in advance for advice.

I used the plug and play kit from Hewitt on my 06 a few years ago and haven't had a problem.

I did call Toyota and asked for anything they could do for me. I told them this is my second tundra. I’ve had two Sequoias two Tercel’s years ago. Both my exwives drive camarys that I paid for. One of my boys drives a Tacoma the other drives a corolla. I told them all of that plus I told them where I had service done at for the last 20+ years. He very nicely told me to suck it up. I’ve talked I don’t know how many friends into the Toyota family. My old boss was a die hard GM man. After riding in my first Tundra and showing him how big it is. He buys a new fully loaded Tundra every other year. I’m on disability now. I can’t pay those $3000 dealerships prices anymore. I really don’t know what to do.

I wouldn’t cut the cats off it causes issues with your exhaust smelling like rotten eggs

I’m not even sure if that would fix the issues. I know they are all connected. I’m just in a major jam. Got hit by a drunk driver a few years ago. Broke back in four spots. Took almost a year to walk. Of course drunk had no insurance or even a job for that matter. I’ve worked my whole life but now on disability and maintaining until this tundra fluke.

In reference to the kit. Is that something the dealerships would do or would I have to find a another shop to put it on.

    Not nearly enough room here!
Whatever shop you find is trustworthy should certainly handle that job. Ask through friends/family if there's one they use and can recommend.

Secondary Air Injection System Bypass Kits
The kits are very easy to install. If you have a shop install the kit it should be no more than about an hours worth of labor. They are easy enough to install for most people that can do a brake job and change your oil though. Cutting out the catalytic converters will not fix anything secondary air injection system related but will cause other issues like Catalyst inefficiency codes. No reason to cut them out of the system.
