Is there anybody within 200 miles of Reno, NV that has a black 1st Gen shell for sale? I'm eillwilto pay a fair price and come pick it up. Thank you for any leads or information on finding one . I had the same problem. Here is a tip, don't search for just black. I've seen several people paint them. @Rheywood456 painted his.

Also, I bought one for a double cab but know it won't be waterproof as it's not an exact fit.

I have thought about that route too, I had a shop quote me 700 for a paint job but it might not be so bad if I find a killer deal on a shell and I'm sure another shop can beat 700! I appreciate the advise, I'm gonna keep scouring Craigslist until some magic happens

I have a black ARE for sale in San Diego. Its not listed anywhere. I actually have it on my DC but its made for a AC.

Has side fold up windows, Thule crossbars, all the keys.

Let me know if thats too far.

Yes! My shell used to be red. I got it for a steal and decided to paint it myself. I was quoted $500 to repaint it. I used about $50-$70 in paint / supplies and added some sweat equity.

Keep checking Facebook marketplace / craigslist / offer up. These things pop up every once in a while and when they do, they go quick!

    Good luck!!

Unless you're needing perfection I would paint it yourself. It's going to take a long time to find a black one.

Mine was originally salsa red but someone painted it white. I didn't even realize it at first.

It's a perfect fit on on the sides. From the outside it actually looks like it's made for the truck. Once you get inside there is a gap roughly 1/2" tall along the front bed rail. I've posted a ton of pictures in the first gen thread. If you're planning to sleep/camp in the bed I wouldn't get a double cab shell. I've got some ideas to fill that gap so I'll report back if I'm able to stop the water leaks.

Double cab from the first gen, or double cab from the second gen?

What roof rack and rail system did you use?

I used Yakima 60” Tracks. And to mount the basket to the tracks I used T-Bolts that slide into the Tracks so the rack would be lower than having to use towers to mount.

Love the rood rack as well, it looks very clean I will be doing ssosmething similar with welding my own! I was wondering what kind of paint you used brand and if you did a finish over it? Mine is green and have been wanting to paint it and reseal to the bed!

I used Rustoleums Paint / Primer Combo Cans. Great paint. They’ve got the “easy spray trigger” already on each can. I did a few coats of clear and then wet sanded it to a nice shine. It ain’t professional paint work but it works!

Any chance yours is a mid-rise or high-rise shell?
