You should probably add Your location, but it is most likely CA.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I remember those days. Miss the beer and tacos. The dmv fees, not so much.

Yeah but if I remember correctly your plate will be numbered slightly different and if you’re caught with a load in the bed (motorcycle) it’s a hefty fine.
However, with the shell you can stuff anything you can under it and you’re good.

Wish I knew this when I owned a truck with a shell. Two of my previous trucks had color matched shells. Wonder how they feel about the color matched hard cover?

Covers wont work for paperwork change. Needs to be a camper shell but after you change the registration over, you can put on a tonneau or something like that.

@8MINT8 report back and let me know how it goes. Such a BS thing, being charged as a commercial vehicle on a personal use truck.
Another sneaky way they get us in Cali.

The only ones you will have to worry about are CHP, most likely. If you go this route, you can’t put anything in the bed.

Am I understanding this correctly? If the truck has a canopy it is no longer considered a commercial vehicle by Commiefornia?

I thought it was weird when I registered my Tundra as a commercial vehicle. Didn't battle, just forked over the cash. Good to know there's a work around.

Such a love/hate relationship with that state. I'm a CA native, so I'll always love it... but, man, it's a different place than the one I grew up in!

Yes it is sadly. I was born here in 79 and it was so much simpler back then. Here in Torrance we used to have open fields with local farmland. I moved to Nebraska for a year when I was a kid as well a frequent visits throughout the years. It was always a great change of pace. I loved how free it felt. Less restrictions in all aspects of life. Country just a few miles from your door. I swear the people are more tolerant than cali people. Go figure!

Born in '79, as well. Little farther South; my mother was born in Torrance, went to South High...
