I still think your vet needs to order some EKT from Wedgewood Pharmacy. Then they can muzzle him and apply it and you won't need to worry about trying to treat him. I would also repeat it 14 days later. It's crazy to be suggesting an ear canal ablation without trying this treatment first. If it doesn't work, then you can discuss ear canal removal.

Oral Enrofloxacin (or any other oral antibiotic) is not typically effective against severe ear infections. You need to topically treat it. It would be quick and easy for your vet to order the EKT. It's really your best option imo.

Thank you soooooo much for the reply. I will definitely ask when I call them today. If they wont I can always take him somewhere for a second opinion. They are saying that it looks like pseudomonas.

Yeah, that's a nasty bug. Hopefully you can get a vet to apply the DKT. I've had great success with this stuff. It's all I use anymore because it's very effective and the client doesn't have to fight with cleaning and applying ear drops. Best of luck.

One of my favorite breeds. Frenchies are a brachiocephalic breed (short nose). There are a few things to watch for. These breeds are more prone to a few upper airway issues. This includes stenotic nares (constricted nostrils), elongated soft palate, everted laryngeal saccules, and collapsing trachea. Some require surgical correction for these problems (except collapsing trachea, which has no effective surgical correction), some don't have these problems. All of these issues require a veterinary exam to confirm. The end result of these issues is breathing problems. If your new Frenchie snores, open mouth breathes alot, or coughs, it's worth having a vet take a look. A thorough exam requires heavy sedation and xrays.

I placed a call in and I'm waiting to hear back. Hopefully they will go for the EKT treatment. If not, I called another vet and they are willing to take a look at him. The Osurnia must not have been strong enough.

So my vet did put in the script for the EKT from Wedgewood. It should be here in a few days. She will do the treatment and then a 2nd one 14 days later. Hoping for the best and a cure this time since the Oserna didn't work. :fingerscrossed:

Right on. Here's hoping that it's effective. I actually need to apply some to my Labrador. She has a chronic issue with her right ear, but EKT will clear it up for months at a time. It's the only treatment that works for her.

May I ask for help with behavior? Specifically separation anxiety and how train my pup to better cope while I'm away? If not your wheelhouse I totally understand. Thank you both for extending your knowledge to the forum!

@eccracer104 that is definitely an issue for a trainer. If it something you would like to tackle yourself start watching Larry Krohn on YouTube and maybe find a good trainer in your area to help you out.

Anxiety in dogs is pretty difficult to correct. Certainly a trainer is a start but a lot of times it will take a trainer and medications. Unfortunately, meds alone are usually unsuccessful.

    Got it. Thank you!

We're working on training with him via an article I read by the ASPCA on separation anxiety so us leaving isn't associated with anxiety and fear. He's nearing 8 months old, plenty of time to learn, and hopefully to change his habits.

Ideally he won't require medications, but if that's what it takes, not opposed to the idea.

For fun - our boy - Moose.

Haha! We're actually pretty sure he's the runt of the litter (surprisingly). He's right about 60 pounds now, per our vets estimation and his growth we're thinking around 80 when he's done growing.

I agree that you typically have to use a combination of training and medication. Prozac can be very effective for separation anxiety. It often takes a number of months on Prozac to see if it's effective. If it is, some can stay on it but others can be weened off it after going through training. Talk with your vet about local trainers. Usually takes more than just a Youtube video to be effective, and many vets know good local trainers.

    Thank you!

    Gotcha. Thank you.

Totally understand on the “YouTube training” not being up to par.
Of late, we pick up everything that could be chewed or destroyed in the living room and come home to a clean house. He doesn’t bark nonstop in the living room either. So far this has been the best solution, but of course, we’d like to work towards not needing to have every little thing out of his reach.

It’s good to know there’s a combination of medication and professional training that we can leverage in the event that he doesn’t make progress. :)
