I have a 2003 Tundra and I'm trying to find a locking gas cap that doesn't throw a check engine code. I purchased the Stant brand locking gas cap from Rock Auto and after a few miles of driving around town with the lock gas cap installed the check engine light came on. After clearing the check engine code I tried it again and I got the same results. Is anyone using a locking gas cap that works without getting codes?

yep bank account is running low from it..
I get it when I have the locking gas cap on. When I use the factory one no codes show up.. I have been thru two locking gas caps from stant in about 4 years.

I think second gens have the same problem with locking gas caps. I opted for a fuel door instead.

Where can you get a locking fuel door? Are they OEM from Toyota?

According to RexKramer they were available thru 2002. After that it wasn't offered for whatever reason. Which kinda sucks. It could probably be retro-fitted... Now I'll be stalking CL looking for Tundra part-outs!

Mine is AMI fuel door (I don't think toyota makes fuel door for 2010). There are so many different styles of them. Just google tundra fuel door.

I'll have to inquire at the local Toyota dealer and find out if it's a part I can order for a reasonable price or at least what years it was an option.

^Great idea! Please keep us informed about what you find out. Wouldn't it be great if you could order one color-matched..!? :)

I know this is a old post, but I had a '03 tundra and used a stant #10509 locking gas cap for over 13 years and it never threw a code!

I'll have to see what part number my gas cap is. I think I kept the box. I did do some researching and found the part numbers for the OEM locking fuel door. It looks like it can be retrofitted to fit on the '03 as well but I need to get the parts in my hand and look at my truck. From what I've found, it's about a $130-150 for all the parts.
