This Chinese virus has probably been here in the USA since December 2019, so any testing will certainly expose more positives. I am still working, shopping and buying fuel - but I have also increased my safety measures that affect / protect myself and others.

I don't know why you'd trust literally anyone else. But that seems closer to the norm nowadays, ignore people who's entire life and skills are dedicated to being an expert at something and instead trust Karen on facebook or some dumb shit on the news or a politician. Every single medical expert has said since day 1 this is a big deal, and are still saying that and that it will get worse and everyone continues to ignore them regardless if it's the WHO or the Surgeon General or the local doctor.

Incorrect. The NUMBER of infections is higher, but the infection rate shown in the graph is not accurate. Per the medical professionals you can figure there are about 10 times as many infections as there are confirmed cases. With exponential infection rates that occur without any measures to flatten the curve the number of infections will just about double every 3 days, but with proper preventative measures that is slowed. It's a highly contagious shitshow for sure.

Honestly got a kick out of this! We're a home school family and there's not a week that goes by that someone thinks "Homeschooling is SO EASY!" lol. Great rewards come with great undertakings. Best of luck to you and your family.

The country doing the most scientific tests are Iceland which is testing their population randomnly. Iceland has tested for the virus at a rate 5 times South Korea and 30 times the rate in the US. They have a rate of cases of 2200 per million of population compared to the Us rate of 200. They also show more than 50% of positives have absolutely no symptoms. Close to 50% have very mild symptoms of minor cough, nasal drip, etc. Less than 1% serious, critical, life threatening infections.

Extrapolating this to our population where we are currently only testing the very sick, numbers will probably be on par with Iceland, meaning there are likely at least 10 or more positives out there for every person tested positive so far. As we have currently tested about 1/1000th of our population. That means likely 1/100th of our population is currently infected and total numbers will go up substantially over time. Hopefully the changes in social distancing, self-quarantine, increased hand-washing - have made significant changes to the way we interact with one another and will keep this a manageable health pandemic and not overwhelm the health care system.

This is why the president is talking about moving people back to work. If we go back with improved habits and awareness, it keeps things manageable. But the numbers of cases and deaths will continue to rise over time.

I really can’t believe how many people still haven’t grasped the seriousness of this. Even a week ago people on here were still comparing this virus with the common cold. Anyone that stupid just shouldn’t speak out loud. And I’m still hearing comparisons to the flu today. Just stop it. There is no comparison.

I’ve been keeping track of the numbers since this started. 341F67BE-5F9C-43C8-A3E1-A7EDE3C0314D.jpg
These are the US numbers. Confirmed cases / total deaths / deaths on that day. This is an infectious disease that spreads constantly and consistently and is accelerating. Without intervention, nothing will slow it’s spread other than people dying and people already infected becoming immune. That is why we’re sheltering in place. It’s the ONLY way to slow the spread. There is no other option until a vaccine comes along in a year.

Now look at the numbers above. Don’t look at the confirmed cases because they really don’t mean much because of our lack of testing. Look at the total deaths and deaths per day. You’ll notice those numbers double every 3 days. Without fail. Every 3 days. That’s because the virus is spreading and infections are doubling every 3 days. There’s nothing that will magically slow that down. Now because we started sheltering in place, it will make an impact but results won’t be seen for atleast 2 weeks. And because it’s being done half assed across this country, I’m really not sure how much of a difference it will make yet.

Now look at the pattern above. In one week, there will be 1000 deaths per day. And our hospitals will be completely overrun. In 10 days, 2000 deaths per day. In two weeks, 4000 deaths per day. And you can see where that’s going. If the sheltering in place doesn’t make an impact, that is what we’re in for. We better start praying it works and better start hoping people actually comply.

Anyone telling you any part of this country will open back up by Easter is a complete fool. They either have no idea what they’re talking about or just doesn’t care how many people die. Tell me what part on this map will be opening by Easter, this entire map will be solid red by then.

United States will pass Italy in confirmed cases VERY soon then china shortly after that. Deaths will too once all our hospitals are beyond maxed out peopel will just be laid out to die. The flu does not max out a hospital. Americans do not take anything seriously until it directly affects them. Many of these "essential" positions need to shut down too. The economies were already crashing before the first cough so it does not even matter now. New digital currency will be rolled out and guess how it will be controlled? There is NO going back to normal EVER especially after the fuckery that is the "rescue package" is really the nail in the coffin.

Joon, I appreciate you breaking these numbers down for those not keeping up. I’m stunned at how little invested so many are in what’s happening. Thank you for being a good human. I know you’re a small business owner and this will damage your livelihood, but you realize that won’t matter if someone close to you dies because we can’t get our collective act together.

*For those asking, every state posts Covid-19 deaths each day. Last I checked, the CDC had stopped compiling and posting them  — as well as lowered the posted guidelines across the board for protective equipment— to make it match what we have on hand, instead of real PPE that keeps virus out. Deaths in my community (of unknown cause, because there’s not testing) are up... and those aren’t counted in Joon’s tally either.

We are a week behind Italy essentially, in how this is ramping up here. And Italy has more ventilators per capita than we do. Also, about half of those now requiring hospital care in for Covid-19 in the US are younger than 50. Politicians blocking science-based knowledge is the worst response. Please pay attention everyone, and hunker down!

I've noticed the skeptics keep repeating the same 2-3 talking points because it's all the ammunition they have. Some people have a hard time admitting they were wrong.

Fake news. We have very little testing taking place compared to what we need to get in front of this thing. Also compared to other majorly afflicted countries. Not to mention that there is still no mass testing taking place so who knows if it will even materialize. All we’ve had so far is promises. Also remember that the current numbers are a snap shot of 14 days ago, from before we started quarantine.
