Truck looks awesome! I'm experiencing the same thing with the 6112s. I've put off buying a set for years, and now that I'm finally willing to spend the money, you can't get them anywhere.

I was looking around for them before I bought a used set off of here and I couldn't find them in stock anywhere. This was maybe a couple months ago. Now I just need to have a free day to try and get everything swapped.

I tried to order from shock surplus and got a message they were backordered. Cancelled my order and called First Gen Offroad, he said they were out of stock at at ton of places. This was almost two months ago- I guess they must be back in stock now!

I have a pair of 6112s with new tophats and isolators. Just need to assemble and install. No clue where my Branick is. I think of the guys on either the HVAC crew, or the flooring crew I had so work to finish out the basement might’ve walked off with it. I know the HVAC guys bent my pristine OEM skid plate and failed to tell me. Also broke my attic ladder and failed to mention it. Can’t get good, honest help these days.

My sequoia has one. The mast itself was broken when I bought the sequoia but the motor still works. It's really annoying actually because the motor still goes on and off like the antenna is there :)

I replaced it with a mini antenna because the replacement power antennas were stupid expensive.

    Long time lurker here,
Was waiting to get some more stuff done on the truck before posting in here, but have started to realize the project will never end[IMG]. Owned the truck since April and have been focused on getting it to a solid baseline and mechanically sound. Can't remember everything that's been done, but have the main things listed below, plus some pictures of trips to yellowstone, snow canyon, cedar breaks, etc. This forum has been a huge help in maintenance, upgrades, etc. so wanted to share the build! Recently got the frame woolwaxed as well, so ready to tear it up this winter. Hope I can add some build content in the future! (bonus photo of the almost bluetooth timing belt from the previous owner)

Yea… previous owner said it was done 30k miles ago. Checked and found this. I suspect it was almost 200k on the original belt

Your picture makes me want to take mine to 10 years instead of replacing it next April at 9 years.

I'm gonna try and be the optimist here and say, "some people don't know the difference between a drive/serpentine belt and timing belt. The number of times we have to correct semi-mechanically-inclined members on here about changing the timing chain on their 1st gen's V8 ....

listening to albums all from start to finish makes it a whole different experience, especially for those older groups that set up an album to be in vinyl (ie no skipping songs or shuffling). I used to get on the road at like 10 pm and listen to Pink Floyd albums for the 4 hour ride to see my folks on the ride from Denver. Thanks for the nostalgia bomb!

I had a kick ass stereo system in my 96 taco at the time (kick ass to my teenager brain)so it was pretty good, but I agree, a good set of headphones does provide a different listening experience

I've always had kickass systems in my vehicles, since my very first truck!

But nothing beats a really good set of cans on your ears, and an immersive album. There are a LOT of albums out there that are a wildly different experience with cups over year ears, and spatial audio..

I listen to albums start to finish when I'm sitting at my desk working but I prefer to listen to random songs when I'm driving. Maybe partially because I'm running the stock sound systems in both my Toyotas and we know how good those are.

So I'm putting together a catch-up maintenance list on my 2002...

A couple times ChatGPT has told me I have a timing chain. Once it said to torque the fill plug to 50 ft lbs. When I asked if it was sure, it said "good catch" and corrected the ft lb number. It's 100% right about 95% of the time.

Were those cracks totally obvious when you took the cover off, or only when you bend it like that?

NEVER USE AI FOR AUTOMOTIVE ADVICE. NEVER EVER EVER.

It’s pulling its data from any uninformed source it can find, it will give you bad info repeatedly. Don’t do it!

If you need a catch-up list we have a full ass maintenance schedule in the 2nd reply of the mega thread (sticky “so you just bought a 1st gen?” thread). It should have everything you need and more.

People’s confidence in AI is frustrating as hell. I can’t even begin to tell me how many people have come here completely fucked due to AI.
