I Am taking delivery on a 2020 Heritage Land Cruiser around 11-30-19. Looking to change shocks. add hidden winch add running boards ad custom dual exhaust. Have been out of the 4x4 mod game for 30+ years. Complete novice as to sources styles ect. Looking to duplicate ride of 2019 Tundra TRD PRO. Lots of high speed interstate travel, beach driving, some muddy deer hunting duck hunting hauling bird dogs and daily driving duties. Any forums or mod sources and general info is greatly appreciated. Figured this thread was a good place to start. If Im in the wrong place please direct me otherwise. Many thanks in advance

Count on it. Should have the black TRD Pro wheels and nittos already installed when it leaves the dealer. Doing a complete mod with hidden winch chrome delete and lots of cool stuff that should make for some good pics. Is there space for dual exhaust under a modern LC? I would think that it'd be pretty tough on just about any modern SUV. They really pack a lot of things under them these days.

Its an issue. Spare may end up on top but I can work around this if needed. Most likely a custom install from a muffler shop. I am trying to decide between Borla Flowmaster Magnaflow and several other mufflers. Looking for that mellow5.7 l TRD PRO V8 rumble without drone. Nothing crazy loud

 

No worries My son has a highly customized Tundra for his job-bass fishing pro boat kayak boat mfg rep. Large FB instagram exposure He has all the equip and knowledge for posting pro quality pics. Will def follow through with this Thanks again for response and intetest

 

Cool article as already mentioned above. I had the pleasure of riding in 2 types of these older LC’s back in the 80’s which were owned by a buddies dad. They were always working/wrenching them. Lots of TLC was needed on them even though they were very rugged.

Riding in the back ‘over the wheel well seats’ was never comfortable and outright terrifying if an accident came to mind.

We pay homage to the LC as its the basis for our Tundras. The Japanese took our Jeeps and made them better for their intended design. One thing worth mentioning is the person who took Toyota to the next level post-WWII and that is an American, W. Edwards Deming.

Without him and Toyota teaming up, we’d be replacing our trucks every 80-100k miles with new ones.

 

I don't know if things have changed, but I always liked Borla's tone. Good luck finding that perfect sound. I look forward to reading about this build too.

 

As indicated on another thread Zi spent many hours days weeks back in 79-81 in an old school LC My buddy owned it and we took it on hunting/fishing trips all up and down the east coast from Del-Fla The thing had 250k + miles and was totally reliable and basically bomb proof unlike its American counterparts. Yes it was uncomfortable and very basic. But other than some duct tape here and there and a turn or two with a pair of vice grips TLC was not required. Tons of good times and memories associated with that old truck. Would love to dig it up and restore. Worth much more now than then. I have a great love for all the old Toyota 4x4s and I think the release of the Heritage edition with the old school badge was a stroke of genius. They are selling like hot cakes. Locating one in black is a major problem I was extremely lucky to find mine. I plan to carefully document the mods and build on the mew unit. stay tuned for pics

 

My above comments weren’t digs against the LC. Just simple observations. The cool factor was higher on them than their in city/town practicality.

Regarding your upcoming luxury purchase: You should just keep it simple right off the shelf. No mods.

 

No worries did not take it that way Just a comment on total reliability on a vehicle with 250 k miles which we would have driven to Alaska without a second thought. The V8 platform in current Toyotas follows suit. Thats why I am buying this one. As for mods I get what u are saying Im not doing anything that cant be changed back to stock. This truck will not be a pavement princess. It will be used as intended. I plan to keep it for a long time. Mods will all be bolt on. Chrome delete will be wraps. Original bronze BBS will be stored for resale if when I decide to sell it. Word is yhe model will be discontinued in 2022 which I find to be very sad

There's local guy here with an Imported Land Cruiser Prado, Right-side drive. 3.0L Turbo diesel etc on Offerup. It's killing me cause I don't have anywhere near the coin he's asking...

 

I looked at a couple Prados. Great vehicle just too much$$$ Resale on these is insane The custom shop doing my work has an older LC getting a new chevy crate engine tranny complete custom interior. Six figure build Cant wait to see it I have a serious weakness for these vehicles The white one is badass
