The android headunits are great , I have a Joying 1024x600 running kitkat (preferred due to the amount of customization available for my type of radio). You can install just about any navigation app from the Google Play store. I use the iGo navigation app, its a little expensive but has not got me lost in southern California.

    *raises hand for stupid question*

Does that unit work off cell reception or actual satellites for the GPS?

yep bank account is running low from it..
GPS receivers are dirt cheap. Software is already in android to run it. With only the top dash in the way the GPS signals (satellites) should penetrate the dash with no problem.

Unfortunately, almost all that kind of stuff is made in China anymore. Do they make them for second gen with backup camera?

Ya. I've seen a few. They package them on Amazon all the time. I just don't want to drop 250+ on something that blows.

Had mine for 2 years, I live in the desert where summer temps can reach 120 and the one I have, has never burned up. The gps works great, it has a long cable so you will be able to route where ever you need. I put it under the center dash speaker grill as I removed that speaker when installing my aftermarket speakers.

I'll post some screen shots of my unit. The ones you see on Amazon now are more than likely the new models.

They have both, the unit receives a gps signal from the receiver and if you want you can get a 3g/4g dongle and use that for data only. You can also use your phone as a mobile Hotspot to connect your radio as it has wifi connectivity.

I have a Joying Android unit and does everything I need it to do. The GPS unit sits where the center speaker and picks up great. Has front camera, rear camera, and can record from a camera. Plays videos, music off of microSD card or USB drive. I did not get the DVD player just because I would never use it. Connects to wifi hotspot on my phone when I need data and Bluetooth to phone. Also connects bluetooth to ODB2 for real time monitoring of the canbus. I do not have steering wheel controls but others have it working with the steering wheel controls.
Mostly use it for Google Maps and BackCountry Navigation when off-road. Play music via USB stick.

That joying unit sounds pretty good, how much was it?

Have had it about a year now. Think I paid under $300 for it. Carjoying.com you can check them out. It's not perfect but I feel it's better than anything on the market for what I use it for
