Needed a few days to get my head turned on straight so I went to western KS and tried out the new tires. They've had some good rains in places and the wheat looks good. Lots of dust, mud and mosquitoes. Tried some shooting at 400 yards just to see how bad I was. I had a good time and the truck and tires did great. It was good to get away for a few days. Now, back to the grind.

I got a pretty good deal on a Tikka Tac 6.5 Cr. It likes all the ammo I've shoved into it and it shoots very well with cheap ammo. This was with Federal Non-Typical 140gr. I like all guns that like cheap ammo. It's like marrying someone that isn't high maintenance. This is the first time i've had a place to shoot above 200 yards. I've got some practicing to do:militarypress:

I knew it was time to come home when I started thinking more of work (and chores) than having a good time. It was good while it lasted and I think you should get out and take the time for yourself. Life is short. It was good for my soul. Not too long and not too short. Just a quick get-away. Do it!!!

The Tikka triggers are awesome. This one is a factory 2 stage that I set at 2.0 lbs. Very crisp.
On top I have a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50

Wow. My wife and I were thinking of taking a quick, weekend run out the Kansas farm I was raised on [no family there anymore] ... might just have to do that.

Nice country. When I get a little pissy my wife almost makes me go get lost in the desert with my guns and steel targets. Nothing like pinging steel to really level yourself back out.

Yep. Good catch. I made it when I had my Tacoma and the tailgate could come down. Now that I have the Tundra I have to use it with the tailgate up. I use it all the time. I have legs for it and put about 40 lbs of lead on top to help with the movement from the leaf springs / shocks. My design for adjustable legs kinda sucked so now I just practice on breathing and balance. It's pretty nice for a guy like me making it. I will get some pics today. I used a center punch for the receiver hitch and can drive down the road with it attached. :)

I'm not the best welder....... or even very good; but it's held up for years. I made about 4-5 of them and gave them to my buddies.
