Keys from Dealership....am I missing one?

How's everyone doing today. So I picked up my new 18 Tundra from the Dealership last weekend (it was a leftover I've been watching for a while) and they only gave me two keys: both the fob style. I asked the salesman if it came with a just a plain "valet key" without the fob and he said nope, just these two. Got the wife into a new 4Runner a few months back and that came with 02 fobs and a valet key... Just curious to see what you all got from the dealership and if I should have gotten a valet key with the truck.

I'll add both the Tundra and 4Runner are SR5 trim levels.... not getting just a plain key to keep in the safe at home just had me scratching my head.

 

I got my 17 as a leftover in April, only got the 2 keys/fobs

 

Ok sounds like I got what I should have. With these new chip keys seems like spares are pretty expensive. Found that Ace Hardware could make a copy but that runs almost $80!

 

I bought mine in December of 17 and only got the 2 fob style

 

Only got 2 with my 2015 as well.

 

Welcome from Northeast Connecticut. My 2015 only had 2 keys

 

Only got two with my 2019 1794.

Same here also, 2 Fob on my 17 SR5.

 

Only 2 fob keys with my 2018. I just use one and keep the other at home for safe keeping. I assumed 2 keys were normal, every other vehicle I have ever purchased new only came with 2 keys/ fobs.

Toyota stopped giving out grey valet keys a while ago.

 

Its cause Toyota knows us Tundra bros dont let nobody drive our trucks!!

 

Yup. Insurance industry poo-poo'd them thar valet thingies.

 

Well guess I just got lucky with the 4Runner with the grey valet key.

 

19 limited only received two fobs.

 

How many keys does 1 need though? My last 3 vehicles I have used 1 key and the other stayed in my safe until the day I traded the vehicle, and the 2nd key always went unused. I imagine if I had 3 then 2 would be unused?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum as I just picked up my 2019 Platinum Tundra MBM this evening (traded my 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport), but I'm a little late to this post, sorry. I received only two keys as well so I asked the sales manager and he said Toyota is just not doing them anymore. My issue about the valet key is the locking glove box. That's the whole purpose for having a valet key. When I asked him about that, he just shrugged his shoulders. I guess maybe just take valuables out before any kind of service that requires someone to have the truck for a while. I would still like to have a valet key though.

 

Oh yes, and the locking tailgate as well.

 

I bought my used '16 last month and it came with 2 FOBs and the valet key as you all are calling it. I was a little surprised to see 3 keys.

 

I always carried the valet key to my FJ Cruiser in my wallet, just in case. I needed it twice over 6 yrs, both times far from civilization. When I took delivery of the new Tundra, none was given. I need to have one made.

 

Did some searching around. If you need an extra made, your local ace hardware should be able to do it if they have a machine that does “chip” keys. The blank is roughly 80 bucks though.

Mine just came with the two keys at fobs. I had a third key made as a hide a key. No chip, so it won’t start the truck but at least it will get me inside.

 

I had the same experience. 2 keys/fobs with my 17 and 2 key/fobs + 1 valet key for my wife’s 16 4Runner

 

Don't panic!

the valet key is becoming a thing of the past.

Older gen vehicles may still include it, but majority of the Toyota line up does not.

Canadian dealer sales person here. I assume simple cost saving means from Toyota but nothing fishy from your dealer going down.

 

There's an oem gun safe for the centre console. Worth the $$
