I just installed mine last weekend. Of course night and day difference LOL. I can’t believe I put up with my OE HU for 10yrs LOL. I haven’t had a chance to really mess with it, been busy working on the rest of the system.. Such a nightmare lol

What did you do for your sub? Are you running one or two? I’m thinking 2 if I decide to do my hole system. One from tech12volts.

Looks great! I'm cheap & have a DDX9906XR (last year's model is cheaper) to put in my Sequoia. Please let me know which NAV adaptor cable that is, I bought a similar one for my Tundra that did not work.

    Thanks

The 9906 does not have navigation.

It has a nav antenna that it uses for carplay & to pass nav data to nav apps, same as the 9907.

Right and wrong. The gps antenna is only for the CarPlay use. There is no internal navigation function. You need to use the gps antenna that’s supplied with the unit.

I suppose you know more than Kenwood.

I just want to know which adaptor connects between the truck & unit, is that ok?

I know exactly how it works. Every unit with CarPlay requires a gps antenna to supplement the phone it’s connected too. This is only for times where the cellular service is minimal allowing the navigation app being used to continue to function as it should. If the unit is not connected to a phone, it has zero ability to perform any navigation function.

The unit comes with a new gps antenna. That is the antenna that you’re supposed to use. You don’t need any adapters.

I need the adaptor if I don't want to run an ugly antenna that will damage the paint, also, now you are saying it does use the nav antenna, for nav before you said it did not.

I am sorry, for messing up your thread OP, please forgive me.

I never said it uses the factory nav antenna. There is no navigation antenna. You’re confusing internal built in navigation with a gps antenna for Apple CarPlay. They are not the same. The gps antenna supplied with the Kenwood unit is only for the use of using navigation apps on your phone when you are connected to CarPlay. That’s it. It is merely a supplemental antenna to your connected phone.

You don’t have to mount it on your roof. I have a 996xr that has built in navigation. I have antenna mounted under the grill of a removed dash speaker. It works 100% as it should.

Don't mount the GPS antenna in an ugly place then! Just rip out the center dash speaker and mount it there. I made a short plate out of aluminum bar stock (Home Depot), bolted it where the speaker used to be and stuck the antenna on that. Replace speaker grill - *poof* it's totally hidden and looks factory! Works like a charm.

Do you have any pics installed? I'm cheap too and leaning towards this HU as well. Found it for $650 on ebay.

does the DDX9907XR have the "issue" where it won't auto connect with Android Auto over wifi? Some of the other kenwoods do.

This is what I'm wondering as well. As far as I know, Google removed this capability for all Kenwoods - I'd love to be proven wrong.
I know for certain my DMX1057XR always goes to Standby after I turn the vehicle off - I must wake up the AA by poking the screen in order for it to resume.

My analysis and bug tracing here: (yet again, google says it's a feature, not a bug)

I don't really use the USB data port. I mainly use Bluetooth connection for music and podcasts. So may skip it then, save $15. Haha

If you don't use android auto or apple car play you will need it to update the headunit.
