Here is the result of 6 months using the K&N air filter. I've immediately switched back to a factory air filter. I upgraded to the dual TRD exaust and my truck throttle response has dramatically improved along with acceleration. Once you'll pass the 2000Rpm you'll feel the kick from acceleration and that is with a factory paper air filter. I'll later on try the drop-in TRD air filter to see if I'll experience any improvement but I doubt!
Of one thing I'm sure, never K&N air filter or performance air intake of any kind. All that 5.7 engine needs is to be able to breathe better, it gets enough air. It's just a matter of exhale for the truck. I'm also, thanks to a member post on this forum, to instruct my TOYOTA dealer on how to adjust the exaust tail pipe hight. During the first installation they did a pretty damm sorry job trying to level it at the same hight.

    Nice washer stack!

Nothing protects your engine better than a clean OEM air filter, imo.

I noticed the washers only because I decided to go to a local muffler shop to see if there was any room for adjustment they could make. Once they lifted I saw the surprise.
OEM is the way to go, those engineers do to much research and testing on those vehicles to for the right set up and engine tuning! So they are the one who no your vehicle the best.
Could you imagine all that oil ending up in wrong place!

That K&N was over oiled. My K&N has been in my truck for over 3 years and air box is dry as a bone. No air filter is going to give you performance gains.

K&N is junk. I wouldn’t use that trash in my snow blower.

Same for me. I have had mine for 2.5 years and my box is dry. I put barely any oil on my filter since it has been said that the oil clogs up the MAF sensor.

I never cleaned this filter, this is the way it came right out of the box. I also came to realize that the gain is so minimal compared to the money spent. The exaust upgrade is the way to go for any noticeable gain.

Maybe too much oil from factory, i don't know. Clean it, very lightly oil it, clean all oil from the box, see what happens.

The main reason I got mine is because it's the last air filter I'll ever buy. Money well spent since it's already paid for itself. The filter would have to be super over oiled to foul the maf. Thin layer is best. An air filter is the last thing I'd think of getting for performance gain.

If you like the trd dual exhaust you'd really love a dirty deeds cat back system. TRD is shown to lose power at lower RPMs and gain only slightly at higher revs. Dirtydeeds BAmufflers gain power and torque at lower rpm as well as higher.

Is dirty seeds a true dual exaust and is that made entirely out of steel? I do short trip as well so I'm also looking for something that will last.

Where did you find a TRD filter for $55? They're usually around $20 more than the K&N. Nevermind...I see your post. That's a good deal!

I've just purchased a TRD air filter and from an initial inspection I've noticed that the rubber frame seems to be made of a sturdier material compared to K&N. This is my first impression, price wise I was able to purchase the TRD air filter for about $55 (6.75% tax included) which it seems to be roughly $10 cheaper then K&N. I will follow up with additional information on TRD once I'll get to use it more.
My local dealership matched the price of this online website.

Interesting thoughts on the K&N. I ran one in my Sienna for 220,000 miles and noticed better mileage than stock right from the first tank. Dropped one in the tundra and it seems to be doing a similar job, but I already had the exhaust on my Pro.

I probably just got a filter that was over oiled but, from personal experience, when it's available I think is best to stick with OEM parts. The TRD drop in air filter that I've just bought, so far seems to be doing a better job then K&N in the way it sound and perform.
After using it for a while I'll give updates on mileage.

Dirty deeds is all stainless steel. And the one I have is a 2 into 1 single outlet. Those lose less power than duals. He does make some kits for duals but his singles make the most hp and tq.
