Picked it up today 2017 Pioneer 19 foot 4500 lbs empty. Drives good 0-50mph. Feels better than the boat I tow but a LOT of noise when I turn and the truck and camper sway at 55 on the highway. Maybe sway bar needs to more tight? Had a mini van pass me and white line to yellow line. 88C6F251-FFDC-4940-9739-B4841452A8D1.jpg

Looks great (and level). What are you running in the rear?

It’s level! Very shocked it was. 50 in rear. Running 295/65/20 E tires.

My thoughts was drop a chain link on the weight distribution hitch or add more psi in tires or add more weight to the tongue weight. Any thoughts?

But it really pulls better than the boat and the power is crazy.

Also had to get a longer in length ( from bumper to hitch) and drop down hitch.

Well there is a couple things you can do. Drop a link on your chains to put more weight on the truck. Tighten your sway bar more. Put a second sway bar on the opposite side. Check your tire pressure on both the truck and the camper ( go a little lower than normal on the truck when towing ). For towing you do want the camper slightly (very slightly) nose down. A mini van going by should not cause very much sway at all. Something needs adjusting if that is happening. My last camper was 19ft and 4000lb. You could barley tell it was even behind the tundra. Absolutely no sway at all even when being passed by tractor trailers.

As far as noise when you turn. That is normal if it is a newer WD hitch and sway bar. They are very noisy until they wear in a little.

Sorry I missed this post. I am going to drop a link 1st if that don’t help I leave it drop and tighten the sway up. Then go up a link on it and tighten the sway bar. I post back what comes out of it. Only leave about 5 miles from Interstate. Thanks

How do you set the swap bar? Guy told me to get semi tight then back 1/4-1/2 turn from tight. I think I will load everything up that I am going to carry as in jack and cribbing and then tow it and see if the nose drop down like @Pariverpirate said and see what happens.

I'll never find it again, but I think I read a thread by one of the towing gurus (@ColoradoTJ ?) that said trailer sway is caused by loading too much into the rear of the trailer and reducing the tongue weight. But your setup looks almost level with a very slightly downward tilt on both sides of the hitch, the trailer and the truck. I would have thought from the hitch angles I'm seeing that you would need to shorten the chains, bwdik. Check the truck body heights at the the front and rear wheelwells before and after hitching.

To insure that the truck's rear suspension does not contribute to the dynamic sway equation, I would probably add a heavy duty anti-roll bar to the truck's rear suspension. My choice would be the appropriate Hellwig (looks like you have lift). From what I've seen, I consider Hellwig an anti-roll bar specifically for towing (1 1/8" diameter, solid forged steel), but it should help improve handling in daily driving as well...it may firm up that ride a little for daily driving.

Damn nice camper! Looks bad ass behind your truck. Congratulations on the purchase.

I really wish “beam me up Scotty” was real and getting to anyone’s location in a second to help.

Do you have a picture of your load distribution setup? Doesn’t matter if in use.

Having a lifted and more importantly “leveled” truck make for a more interesting towing experience, but I do not believe this is your issue. Plenty of lifted trucks that tow this kind of weight/campers without any issues.

This brings me to your Load Distribution Hitch:
-First, make sure you can back up with your style LDH. Some of the chain design ones you can’t.
-Do you have a friction sway control device like this mounted to the frame and hitch?

    462F8BDB-5B66-4CE0-83A0-B5E360037CD4.jpg

If you do not, this is most likely your issue with sway, since you have load distribution, but no sway control. This is very important for control (as you experienced) and makes for a really crappy trip.

I prefer the trunnion style hitches that do load distribution and sway control.

    DE6E736D-E0DF-4C0B-94B7-10D6116C1B1C.jpg

First things first, lets find out if you in fact, have a friction sway control device.

The truck looks very level do you have air bags? I know any Tundra doesn’t sit that level with any weight in the bed or on hitch. With that said the camper should have a slight angle down toward truck. And then if you have bags you can level the truck. If you don’t have bags I suspect your load distribution hitch is too tight, yes to tight on chains will cause driving issues. .
    congrats on camper !

I get a picture right now. The sway bar is friction sway bar. I do have to take it off during backing up. The truck is completely level as of now. Loading camper up this am. I have timbers bump stops and they are not touching. Here is a picture of the sway bar that I took off to get in my driveway. image.jpgimage.jpg

You dont have to take the sway bar all the way off to back up. Just loosen it up so it moves free. The set up looks good. I think your sway has to do more with how it is loaded or your pressure in your tires.

I would say looking at this picture you dont have enough weight on the truck. Drop a chain link and see what happens. I use sumo springs on my truck and the truck sits on them but doesnt really compress them.

Well crap. I was hoping this was going to be easier.

Next I would be taking a link out of your LDH. What rating is the LDH and what is the tongue weight of the trailer(factory specs is fine)?

The tongue weight is 440 I think. The bars are 1000 lbs and the hitch is 1000. All of this came with the camper. The hitch is 10,000 sorry. The bars are a 1,000

I think your just going to have to play with your set up. It took me a few trips to figure out the best set up. Id change it then drive 10 miles, pull over and make adjustments and do it again. Once I felt the most comfortable Id stick with that set up.
