    Just venting.

Being in Houston, TX means you get a hella lot of those 18 wheeler that hurl all the stuff/materials that we need around, and I respect that, hats off to the drivers.
But also being in Houston, TX means you get those nutcases that think they can cut in front of an 18 wheel and expect them to stop on a dime, fat luck.
Was driving in this morning and saw not one but two cases where the sedan tried to wedge in front of a full loaded 18 wheels (steel pipes and all on the back) and you can imagine the outcome. Trucks are not any better, saw a RAM1500 that looks like it was missing the bed part.....
I know most 18 wheels get a bad rap for bad driving, but do yourself a Tundra and don't try squeeze in front of the wheels because you already know who's gonna lose, and in times like this where parts are on national back-ordered for months? Don't do it, just, don't do it.

    Venting over.

18 wheeler drivers are probably the best on the road. I see maybe 1% of drivers that are aware enough to stay in the right lane, move over for broken down vehicles, flash lights to signal passing, etc. If everyone drove the same way as truck drivers maybe I wouldnt scream every time I drove down the interstate :D

I actually lover those truck drivers, granted, not all are nice, but I usually flash lights for them to move over into my lane, and they "wink" back for thank you, I find that it is nice when you play nice with them, vis versa.

Unfortunately the driver training (lack thereof) is the biggest part of this issue. Add to that auto trans, cruise control, and luxury ass trucks. Those drivers become complacent.

It will likely get worse before it gets better, especially with the lack of a generation of drivers, they are desperate to get new drivers on the road ASAP, meaning lower age limit and also less trainings/experience.
But the money is good, and if you like being on the road then it would be a good way to earn some hard cash before getting tied up with family....

I went thru the swift academy and was put OTR, it took my a total of 2 trips from phoenix to Albuquerque to realize I had no idea what the hell I was doing and I didn't wanna die or kill anybody in a stupid truck (trucker pride is what causes most of those wrecks) Now I just wash em as a side hustle.

I feel you, I was offered a job OTR cross state with starting salary that made my eyes hurt.. But, as much as I wanted my Class A DL, I don't really care for driving a 18-wheel any longer than it is needed. (my old job had a 18-wheel that needs moving when reefer trucks came in, as that's the only spot they can park without sticking half the road close, and sometimes all my drivers are out and as a manager, you gotta do what you gotta do)
I agree, I don't want to kill anyone in a fully loaded truck that is basically a weapon itself on the road....
I just admire them from afar and leave them alone.....lol

Good luck. Shit drivers all over the place around here!

I think some of it is piss poor driver training/licensing requirements and little to no consequences for any infraction or unsafe behavior. Some of it is ignorance or distraction. But most of it, IMO, just comes from overpopulation. I can't be the only one that gets sick and tired of constantly having someone in the f***ing way, or BEING in the f***ing way every. single. time. I leave the house and try to go anywhere. It would be nice if I could, even occasionally, just be able to get where I'm going without having to dick around with a bunch of assholes who are just as fed up and annoyed with everyone as I am. Oh, what I wouldn't give to be one of those braindead dorks who are blissfully oblivious to everything around them...

Not even sure if it’s a driver training thing. People are selfish in every aspect of life. Getting one car ahead means so much to inconsiderate people. Sad stuff

So you couldn't hack it and that makes all the other drivers that could bad?

Also, the Swift digs come from facts. They govern their trucks super low. They barely train and then they'll put guys that aren't ready on the road without hesitation; like they did to you. Basically if you can fog a mirror Swift will "train" you and put you on a route. The guys that have no experience or have washed out/wrecked out elsewhere are the majority of Swift drivers. The good ones move to better companies.

I never said all the other drivers, or bad. All Im saying it is my experience that they are poorly trained, which I think we agree upon, and most of em have too much pride to admit that and take themselves off the road before they become a statistic.

I know it was a cheap shot, Swift sure isn't the only carrier that seems to take training as a joke, after 12 years and counting of investigations, enforcement and Leo work we have some carriers we target and some we leave alone.

Those we leave alone have earned it, those we target have earned the bullseye on the door.
