I know this has been beat to death in various forums here but time goes by and things change. I'll keep it brief. I'm now in the market to the trd Magnusson charger kit, called them and they want something like 8300 with the hp tuner and downloading the tune files from them. I'll be putting it in myself. Is there any source out there that anyone has recently used that are cheaper to go through at all or should I just do it through them to get all the support and phone help and such if I need it, which I will

Magnuson (and all supercharger manufacturers) have notoriously tight margins for dealers so I wouldn't expect to find a giveaway out there, unfortunately. I "might" be able to help you out, and at the very least spare you some sales tax on a kit. Alternatively, we offer Whipple superchargers as well that fall into relatively the same price point (@reywcms just snagged one). Truth be told I would find something other than any of the canned tunes from the OEMs as there's a network of folks who can do it better as @Saltyhero13 referenced.

If you're shopping and know your spec shoot me a message and I'll see what I can do!

If you get on a vendor/speed shop list "Whipple" usually has a great Black Friday sale. I've seen Harrop and Magnuson offer discounts but shops usually discount labor rates as part of their install packages.

I'd work with @memario1214 though, I doubt you will save big money elsewhere unless you buy a used kit and pay to refurbish it. That could be hit or miss but a couple of members have done that as well.

@memario1214 Pretty sure another member will be reaching out for a Whipple! But OP yea the margins are tight and I have seen a few pop up used. I personally bought my TRD blower used and sourced the fit kit new. You can't go wrong with any blower setup. I'm making the switch for a few reasons. Definitely recommend a tune from overland tailor tuning.

So I can get the Magnusson kit and then get whatever time I want downloaded to the hp tuner? Is there a tune out there that will get me closer to 600 w the smaller pulley but won't throw a rod through the block. Cause I keep hearing that magnussen's tune is overly safe and conservative.

600 to the wheels will probably require supporting mods if that is what you mean. The general supercharger thread is a good but chaotic resource; it has all been discussed there but unfortunately you have to sift through 8K thread to find it.

Oh no no, the 550 from magnussen is at the crank I was thinking just a little more like 580 at the crank. If you want that at the wheel its Gunna break something and an intake and exhaust would be mandatory. But ya thanks for the guidance I'll go to sifting through those so I just search supercharger or other keywords in the box and start flipping through the results right?

Smaller pulley will require the following
    450 Walbro fuel pump
    650cc-750cc injectors
    Custom tune
    Smaller pulley from @snivilous

You should be fine then with those goals. The highest unmodded engine I've seen here was ~570 WHP running a race fuel but built for E85. Most are in the ~500WHP range +/-30. Safe tune and you'll be fine.

Sure give search a try but it may be tricky to find specifics. Jump right in to the general supercharger thread and ask for what you are looking for; folks are pretty polite there.

Ok thanks guys. I really appreciate the help. I know a good amount about forced Induction and I was a turbine mech in the military but I've never put a kit and tune and tuner and all this stuff together for a vehicle so ya you guys that are on this stuff and follow it daily are a huge help and make this forum what it is.

I’d argue the magnuson tune is less safe than a custom tune based on what we have seen here. The magnuson tune often has knock all over the map. A custom tune will bring you less knock, better fuel trims, and also pick up a good 30-40hp with the tune alone. A smaller pulley with the tune is good for another 20-30 top of that.

No worries you have options. Whipple, Maggie and Harrop. Fourth with Procharger if they are just delaying their offering. Turbokits turbo kit will be an option soon too.

I was in the middle of remote tuning with Overland Tailor Tunes, who had put in hours worth of time for what it's worth, when my truck was sideswiped while parked.

But I can't really decide what I'm doing next till the truck is sorted with shops and insurance. And that's gonna take some time

    Nooooo lol

It's either take a step back with something older and no car payment. Or a 5.7 Land cruiser or LX570 I can put the s/c on. I've changed my mind a dozen times since it happened so who knows what I'll end up with

Good day sir! I’m new here but saw the post. I would be more concerned about upgrading the fuel system above and beyond Toyota recommendations. Due to the lack of fuel, tuners are limited to the parameters to work within. A good tuner is your next stop.

Big fuel pump here and larger injectors no issues but of course the tuner is key hence my recommendation of overland tailor tuning.

    Noob question here on tunes.
I’m seeing 2 options in these here threads, after the blower install, either get some kind of remote tune (sans dyno) or visit a dyno shop and let the tech tune it.
What’s the consensus? Could the dyno tech tune be biased towards the dyno pulls to where it would be a deficit in real world scenarios versus an OTT tune or other independent tuner? Or vice versa, could the remote tuner miss out on not having real time results to adjust? :)

The remote tuner is data logging live and adjusting right after a pull. So really there’s 3 options canned tune that comes with the blower kit, Dyno tune, or remote tuning.

From my experience, dyno tunes give you best numbers on paper. Remote tunes can give you best results. That said, I’m dyno tuned.

Preferably garage/street tuning it first, and fine tuning on the dyno
