Nice to join the Tundras.com family. I do say family because once you take that first step in buying a Toyota Truck, most are pretty much hooked. My first Toyota was an 1983 X-Cab 4x4 with, in my opinion, one of the best engines ever built, the 4 cylinder 22R. Once I purchased this truck, I was done. I bought this truck in 1989 from used lot. I believe it had 102,000 miles at the time. The only problem I had with the truck was a warped head that was caused from overheating the engine. I couldn’t afford to take the truck to a mechanic to address my warped aluminum head so, I bought a Chiltons Manual as any novice would certainly need and persuaded a buddy to lend a hand. I discovered that the overheating had been caused by an aftermarket water pump with an oversized impeller that had eroded a hole in the water pump. For those of you that are familiar with the 22R, the backside of the water pump housing is also the frontside of the crankcase.
I won’t bore anyone with the rest of the story. My fix for this hole in my crankcase is what sold my with Toyota for the remainder of my life.
I had the head shaved, patched the hole with JB-Weld and my friend and I put everything back together with absolutely ZERO confidence, and Low and Behold, that friggin Truck started up on the first turn of the key. The Rest Is History!
The 2018 Platinum I own today is my 5th Toyota Truck, and it’s my 3rd Tundra in the CrewMax line. Maybe I haven’t bored too many.
Glad to be a member of the forum.
