Heading out on a hunting trip near Holbrook AZ on MLK weekend. Wondering if anyone in here can give me an idea on weather? I'm coming from rainy/sunny So Cal. I know it'll be in the 20s/30s at night. Curious if there is typically snow on the 40 between Flagstaff and Holbrook and if I should pack chains.

I'm in Flagstaff; not too far from there and you'll pass through going to Holbrook.

40 is bad between Ashfork and Winslow typically, the elevation drop to HB is usually enough to have clear roads, but the wind can be gnarly. If there is a storm, you'll usually have some slow going, but ADOT does well to keep the roads decently clear; they do shut them down as they did for the storm earlier this week.

They wont require chains if you have a 4wd and decent tires. If your out for a hunt though, you may want some sort of recovery device as the mud in that area turns to snot and is not fun(I dislike the aftermath of mud.)

Thank you very much. I plan on bringing my tow rope and so will my friend driving up from San Diego. neither of us have winches, but we have other recovery gear. And where we're going, it's a dirt road. No real "off-roading". I doubt I'll even use 4wd. But good heads up on the mud.

Message me around that time; if you get in to a bind out in the sticks and need some assistance, I'll do what I can to help.

much appreciated. i'll be with two others, one in raptor and another in a colorado zr2. if we can't get ourselves out of mud, we don't deserve to be driving trucks.

    Looking for antelope?

ETA looks like their numbers are still low but I’ve seen them up in that area.

Nope, hitting a hunting ranch for hog and bison. Just a "freezer filling" trip
