Sooo, as many of you know I have been dealing with a creaking bed issue on my 2018 Tundra ever since I took delivery. After weeks of having my truck in and out of the dealership, the determined that I was to have my bed replaced to repair the issue. I was told that the Anti-Corrosion dip was not applied correctly to the bed, thus causing the creaking. The bed was ordered 4 weeks ago and today I received a call from the Service Manager stating that Toyota cancelled the order of the replacement bed as the creaking issue I am experiencing is wide spread amongst dozens of other Tundra owners. When I asked what the fix is, I was told that they do not know at this time and that this could be a much larger issue right now and I will be updated within 10 business days. I was directed to open a consumer case with Toyota, which I did so we can attack this from both angles. Needless to say, I am beyond pissed off. I have 1000 miles on my truck and it has been in and out of the dealership for six weeks. Since Toyota identifies that there is an issue but will not discuss the cause, I also opened a Lemon Law Case with the state of Washington. Hopefully, the State will assist in some way. If anyone has any ideas on how I can get some leverage, it would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what else you can do at this point but to wait for their response at the end of the 10 business days.

It could be a manufacturing issue with the bed, thus the reason the cancelled the replacement as it would just replicate the same issue. Keep us updated I'm curious what it could be.

Tell me more about this bed creak. I have a little thud when I first take off that sounds like it's coming from the front. Still trying to narrow that one down.

If it only happens at the start of each drive and at about 15mph, it's normal.

Just wondering when your Tundra was made.
They should also do a TSS recall at the same time.

Ya, this is not a thud by any means. Any corner or bump I hit (large or small( my truck creaks badly. Wet or dry roads, you can hear me coming a mile away.

I'm experiencing bed creaking in my 2018 as well. Its currently in the dealer with 700 miles getting a new rear differential.
I have a crewmax, and noticed the creaking sound at low speeds on uneven pavement with the rear window down. I mentioned this to the dealer and they seemed confused. Eh.

I suppose I'll have to "get on the list."

This is definitely not to be confused with the ~7mph abs secondary check.

The PCS recall needs to happen. I'm battling that with my dealer and corporate right now. It's ridiculous on a brand new truck.

My 2016 has a rear squeak when going over bumps that I haven't been able to track down yet. I've readjusted the spare tire, retorqued everything, and used dry chain lube/WD-40 on all pivot points and between the leafs on the leaf spring and I simply can't track it down. The truck is lifted and has the factory rear leafs with a 1" block and Bilstein 5160s. Thought about taking it to the dealer, but figured they'd blame it on the lift. Curious if it's coming from my bed, is this only a 2018 Tundra issue?

I have this same "thud" in my truck. I had a 2008 that did the same thing. I'm not sure what it could be.

I spent another hour on the phone yesterday with Toyota and they say it is a bed issue but since it is a 'larger scale issue' then they realized, they need to address it from a corporate level. My dealer service manager says he was told the issue has been reported on 2016's and up but the 2018's have been hit the hardest. Basically the dealer and Toyota Corporate do not have their ducks in a row and I am stuck in the damn middle. I am supposed to hear back from Toyota Corporate this afternoon. Funny thing is, I asked for something in writing that says my truck is safe to drive/haul and they declined. Which of course have me a bit of leverage when I filed my Lemon Law Complaint. Crossing my fingers that I get some type of good news today.....

Interesting because I also hear creaks from the bed but I just thought is was the cap rear window. Will definitely be watching for an update

A lot of us are having this problem. Not that it changes anything, but it appears the 2018 Tacomas are having the same issue. Why on earth Toyota would put hardware and software in their vehicles in which the bugs haven't been worked out is mystifying to me.

I thought it the creaking noise was something to do with the lift and bushings so I just accepted it. So there is hope for this fix...maybe ? It will be interesting to hear the outcome and see what fix Toyota has.

Thank you for going to bat for us. I thought my creak was from my rear leafs, but soon found out it wasnt. Then, I thought it was form the LineX install not torquing the bed bolts, but soon found out it wasnt. Now there is hope.

    Thank you!

Assuming you win the Lemon Law (or similar) case, then what? I'm legitimately curious what a person of your status (well-established adult, with [hopefully] well paying job, and responsibilities, etc) would do? I'm a bit younger and try to view things through different lenses.
Like, let's say you paid $50k for the truck. You win the Lemon Law, or Toyota voluntarily agrees to completely unwind the deal instead of being 'forced' to. I assume you get your full $50k back with some extra compensation? Like sales tax, DMV fees? Anything for your time and suffering or how you have been made unreliable due to the truck being at the dealer?

Also, what do you do next? Do you buy a brand new domestic truck? Do you buy a different Tundra? Do you go check out Nissan?
If I was in your situation, I probably wouldn't have thought that far ahead yet, as I would be more focused on getting through the current issue, but I'm curious what your intentions might be.

They can't work out the bugs if they don't know about them. The only way to find out about them is to put the items in the vehicles and let it run it's course. It happens with all vehicles; Toyota typically less than most others.
Some things can get identified during R&D, but not all.
