Is this normal? Transmission grab when accelerating

So I am starting to get use to driving my 2019 SR5 and noticed something odd about the transmission. When I go from coasting on the highway without much throttle, to adding throttle again, the truck seems to clunk. It feels like the gear catches/engages. For example, if you are going down a hill and have no throttle, and the when you get back on the throttle it grabs hard. It's pretty abrupt and I've never noticed this on any other vehicle. Is this just normal for the Tundra's six speed, or something I should take to the dealer?

Is it stock or lifted? What mods have you done?

It's stock... I noticed there is lots of back-pressure when you let off the throttle and just coast. When you get back on the gas, it engages all at once.

I notice it a little too. These six speeds take some getting-used-to, I guess. I have learned how to drive it in such a way that I can manage the "grab" feeling.

That's what you call the torque converter. When you release from the throttle it disengages then when you touch the gas again it engages. It's not shifting gears.

My 2019 does it also. My previous truck had a standard transmission, so the sounds and feel of a six speed automatic is very different for me. I am glad you posted this so I know it is not a problem with the truck.

I have a, new-to-me, 2017 and occasionally feel something similar when getting back on it after slowing to turn corners. Will have to see if I feel it at highway speeds also.

The snappy throttle response in TOW/HAUL can add to this sensation. It is a bit jumpy off idle which took a bit of getting used to but I like it.

Mine does this as well. My 2012 didn’t do it nearly as bad though.
