I got broken into and i need to replace my glove box in my 2018 1794 Tundra. Should i do it myself or allow dealership to do it? Thieves messed up the lock, closes but does not lock. I need to replace the whole door now because every time i go over a bumb the glove box opens.

    Any help would be appreciated,

Why can't you just replace the lock or latch?
Can you post ad one pictures?
You should be able to make the repairs yourself.

Your right, maybe the junior service manager was bs me, he said everything had to be replaced. I will talk to parts manager and show lock and see what he says.

I guess it depends on what is broken. It looks like you can buy a few parts like the lock cylinder etc. maybe you could get lucky and find someone parting out a wrecked 1794

If you decide to replace the whole door it’s not too bad of a project.
I’ve not replaced the latch so I can speak to that!

Mines unlocked, no valuables, all is replaceable. The only thing that would piss me off is if they stole my android head unit.

A few months ago some jackass broke into my buddy’s Jeep, damaged console and glove box plus locks, stole his old HU by cutting away all the wires ON THE JEEP SIDE, expensive interior repair, especially electrical.

That would be a better question for Roman. As far as I can see whatever is listed in that parts breakdown is what you can get separately.

Funny how box door closes but does not lock. Further if you go over a hard bump the door opens. The two latches on each end seem to not extend like they used to. I figure the entire door has to be replaced.

    Thanks,

I think you can fix that. Can't really tell but looks like someone damaged the key cylinder. I bet they bent the latch that catches the hook. You may be able to bend it but the locking feature may be damaged/no good.
**can I see a picture of the latch part?

    This ^^^
Try to see if you can turn the key. You may have to use a screwdriver like he did lol. You should be able to actuate the latch with a small screwdriver with the door open. It should click and then release when you pull the handle. If it’s not there’s something in there not catching you may be able to move the lock cylinder around to get it positioned correctly. Also that glove box looks just like the one in my SR5. So any third generation tundra glove box lid will work. But I think that one looks repairable.

Thanks for the help, there is no external latch however, it just two side plastic like bullets that spring open/close when key is turned.I tried with key but those two bullets on the side that lock the box do not do anything now. I guess it is done purposely so you have to buy an entire unit, even the door is not sold separately. Reminds me of the Oil filters going from spin-off to cartridge systems, just more excuses to make money from people.

Been there myself. Scosche industries sells the reverse vehicle harness or at least they did back in the day. This will get you fixed up if someone cut the vehicle side of the harness.
