    Hello all,

I've noticed the the power mirror switch in my '08 is the only thing in the dash that is not backlit, been that way since I bought it used a month ago. So, before I do any disassembly attempting to replace the bulb, I thought I'd ask the audience just to make sure it's supposed to be backlit. Thanks in advance!

Well, that would make it easy to fix - LOL. I can't recall if the Taco was lit - but I find myself groping for this one in the dark, still getting used to the layout.

I was at a Toyota dealer last week checking out Tundras and that switch doesn't have a light. Even in the Platinum and1794s. Kinda weird that they didn't stick a light in it.

Thanks guys - really glad I asked before ripping into it to replace a non-existent bulb.

This is one thing that PMO about my 1794. No backlighted mirror switch? WTF Toyo engineers? For as much as these trucks cost, they should have massaging seats, not gripes about a mirror switch. How could they overlook this switch with lighting?
Only reason I am passionate about this is I have to fold the mirrors all the time, and fumble around fining the switch.

Why do you need to adjust your mirrors in the dark? You adjust them once and you are done. That is why Toyota didn't light them up.

Thanks bro. It's a bit bigger than I thought. I will try look for something smaller that is more low profile. Will post once I have a solution.

The only time that i adjust my mirrors at night is for merging and passing...Not the setting that i use during the day. I will some day install a lighted switch or LED to see the switch better

Multiple drivers is one reason. Thought I haven't let anyone else drive this thing yet - not even my wife.:angrygirl:

I like to adjust mine outward a bit more when highway driving at night, to avoid some glare from headlights behind. Just enough that I need to look to see the light directly in the side mirrors.
Mostly though, it was my OCD kicking in, saying there is a bulb burnt out and it NEEDS to be fixed.:annoyed:

The only sense I have made out of this button not being lit, is the fact that it’s raised (sits proud) and Toyota engineers assumed you could find this by touch...I dunno...

I installed a small "led bolt light" above my mirror controls and it lights up the area well. It was actually too bring so I wrapped the whole thing with electrical tape and cut a small slit for the light to pass through. I'll grab some pics in a few. The bolt lights are under $10 and come in various colors, I chose amber because it was the lowest lumen light, but ended up still being too bright

Surprised it isn’t backlit with the rest of the switches. Bean counters. Also surprised there isn’t a plug and play replacement available. I’d buy one!

I can live without it. It just seems weird that every other switch is illuminated but this one.

Drove neighbors Prius one night and it is lit so I wrote Toyota an email on why trucks are not. Never got a reply. At least the 4x4 switch is unlike the Gen3 Tacomas

I had a white light before and it was way to bright. This amber color is better. I'll try to find a link for the part. I tied the positive wire to the blue illumination wire behind the other switches, so it comes on when the others do.
