I’ve got 2 small dents in my hood in the same exact spot. One on each side that is in the crease where the hood dips in towards the center. I don’t know if the previous own did it or if the crazy heat here may have caused it. I never noticed it till last night when was giving it a quick detail. I had parked the truck facing the sun for the majority of the day and it was pretty damn hot when I finally got out of work and drove home.
So I contacted a PDR guy who has some great reviews and sounds confident that he can do it even though he has to, somehow, get behind the bracing behind the hood. Does PDR cause any long term issues?
The dents catch my eye when I drive and I really don’t want to look at them. He quoted me around $120-$150 which is fair to me.
    Thanks in advance!

I have had it done on my Tacoma and there were no issues. I had the truck for more than 10 years after the repairs. If you have a dent that is actually creased you might have a crack in the paint which can later cause rust, but it does not sound like your dents are like that.

The only other downside that I have heard is that their tools scratch the back side of the panel, which potentially could also lead to rust, but I think that would be extreme.

I would say go for it.

I had it done on a couple of dents on my hood 2 years ago and it’s still good. If they scratched the bottom I can’t tell cause it’s behind the foam sound thing.

Thanks guys for the advice. I’m gonna make an appointment with him and see how it goes.

I just hope it’s not heat related and comes back. I literally didn’t see it 2 days ago and now it’s there. The only variable is the crazy sun and heat.

Something maybe hit on the hood? Acorn? Rocks? I can't imagine the heat and sun on Maine would dent a hood, think of the truckw down south and out west where they sit in 110° sun all day and no one claims dents. I have a few hood dents from acorns so its possible its something else.

That’s true. It really could be anything. I’m trying to live with it and I may just do that but I found it yesterday so it’s still an eye sore

A good PDR guy can work wonders. I don’t think your quote is bad. Good luck hope it turns out well.

They make it look easy - it won’t take long and you’ll think you spent way too much but it’s worth it - the alternative is to take it to the body shop :eek2::burnrubber:

There are a ton of videos on YouTube about PDR... this one is extreme. I was thinking no way could he fix it. Pretty impressive. Most small dents and dings they can fix in about an hour or less.

Just a quick update for anyone that was on the edge of their seat waiting to see what I ended up doing.

I found a local guy, hammartimePDR located in Arundel Maine, who was awesome. He fixed the dent I brought it to him for and also found another soft dent in the hood that I didn’t even see. I guess his special light really shows every little defect. Took him a total of 11 minutes to do both and it was well worth the price that he quoted me.

Now that is done and I can get back to my paint correction plans to get rid of some stripping that the previous owner caused while out in the woods with the truck when hunting.

Awesome - glad it worked out. What was the cost (if you don’t mind sharing?)

I’m curious about your crazy heat part. I used to live in Yuma, AZ. Truck has never been in a garage. It gets to 120+ in Yuma and never had heat related dents. How hot does it get in Maine? Just curious..

he quoted me $120-$150 thru email and he ended up charging me $120. He was really cool and explained to me exactly what he was doing so I had no issue at all with the cost.

So I’m a total idiot when it came to this theory. The reason why I though the heat did this is because I didn’t notice the dent until after a stupid hot day when I had my truck parked facing the sun for 9 hours. I was grasping at straws and thought maybe the heat was the cause.

I was completely wrong. The PDR guy came up with a theory that made perfect sense. I must have leaned on the hood to much when cleaning my windshield after a wash and detail. He explained how the sheetmetal is thin and he has seen this type of thing in the past. I usually wash and spray detail the truck once a week so I can almost guarantee that this is how the dent happened.

I think that’s very reasonable. Glad you got it fixed.
