Im buying a 2013 crew cab today that is supposed to be a TRD. There arent any sickers on th side to indicate it is (seller said he took them off). The original sticker is in the glovebox and it also does NOT say TRD and the selling price was $25,000. The seller says the fact that it has the iForce 5.7L V8 emblem on the side and there is space between the wheel and the body is proof its a TRD. Is that true? Thanks in advance for any advise!

Not true at all. Did you also look to see if it has the Bilstein shocks on it? That is just one of se real upgrades in the TRD package.

Someone on here can probably tell you the certain letter or digit in the VIN to be able to tell if it is factory equipped TRD package.

Run the VIN# at a Toyota dealership or it's there run number, yeah owner may have taken decals off for that "clean look", but VIN tells you everything

TRD option will be shown on the original sticker. VIN will show it. Suspension is the same between SR5 and TRD (gap between wheel and body) although shocks are different. iForce is the same on all models. Nothing the guy says sounds true.
It might be a TRD, but not for the reasons he states.

As previously mentioned, run the VIN. What he is saying isn't true, but it still can have the TRD package.

Post up some pics of it, we'll figure it out.

It's six years old, and could easily not have the original shocks anymore. Running the VIN is the surest bet. Or call your insurance company and have them run it. Whatever they determine is what you'd be paying to insure anyway.

Make sure you check on a Toyota site, NOT a generic site, a generic site will not be accurate, my TRD Pro shows up as an "SR5" on generic vin lookups.

What I meant by was if a Toyota dealership close by her to or if it's at the Toyota lot, run the VIN

also skid plates. TRD ORs have skids that regular SR5s don't. Dealers like to pull the claim it is a TRD when it is not trick. I am sure plenty of unsuspecting people over pay because of their trickery.

ya that's fine :), I was just letting them know that you can't use any old "carfax, etc" site to check the vin, because it won't be accurate, but anyone on here who has their car registered with Toyota owners can put it in and get the specific details.

What does the "gap between wheel and body" mean? I am missing something here

I guess the guy is claiming the TRD package sits higher than a non-TRD truck?

First, it's definitely not a TRD Pro. TRD Off-Roads really aren't that special. Basically marginally better shocks, which probably need to be replaced soon if they haven't been already. A sticker on the bed, which the PO already removed. And a couple of useless skid plates, the gas tank skid being plastic. If you really like the truck, I don't think it being a TRD Offroad or not, should stop you from buying it. But it does raise questions about the seller's honesty if it's not.

I’ll just chime in that my 2011 SR5 has those badges on it. I paid a little over 25k. It’s a double cab, and definitely not TRD. He’s fullabulla.

There’s at least a couple of members here that work for dealerships. @Roman could probably look it up if you can’t find it on your own.

To give the seller the benefit of the doubt. I’m hoping he’s just misinformed. The TRD package doesn’t really raise the value of the truck much. My favorite part was the wheels that came with it.

yes, exactly my point. Looking up the VIN is not going to say "2017 Tundra TRD Off Road" or "2017 Tundra TRD Pro", so that won't prove anything. On the flip side, insurance rates it as a SR5 base model. sooo yeah.. :headbang:

Oh yeah, forgot about the wheels. But I think the TRD wheels on a 2nd gen were just really plain looking wheels, right?

That maybe so. I only like a few of the rims offered on the second Gens. Obviously the rock warriors are bad ass and a few of the 18 inch aluminum options. Never really cared for the 20s Toyota offers.
