Lately I have noticed that many new members start out (first post) by creating a new thread and just ask a question, often times with very little details.

I might be way of base here but over many years and on different forums my first post was always in the new member introduction section. I thought it was just common practice to introduce yourself. Maybe I am just old school or plain old.

Mods, feel free to delete my post if I am wrong here.

I think it depends on the individual forum settings. some require a certain amount of posts or time in a beginner area before meeting the locals... haha.

I've done it both ways, if i had a quick question and little or no interest in discussing the topic i'd make an account, ask my question, get the answer then never go back. :anonymous:

I plan on staying here for a long time tho!!:yes::bananadance::bananadance:

I kind of like the rule of introducing yourself before you are allowed to post in any other sections of the board, including starting a new thread. Guess I'm old school too.

Not trying to stir the pot but I am fairly new and did not do an intro. Curious what would change if we all did an intro? With how many members joining from my POV seems as though most members could not keep up reading them anyways. Maybe rather their signature should include details of the info you are wanting? Location, truck, age etc.

I looked around the site before posting, saw that others had posted introductions, so I did too.

A few months back, seemed like a tipping point happened: there's been a massive increase in new members; it got hard to keep up, tryin' to post a welcome. Also, only a few put up any personal info (the one I miss most is location). So I perceive that now, just a few months later than I joined, if someone comes in lookin' around, they're not gonna see any need to post an intro, or to say where they're from.

Meanwhile, on my end, as new membership in SoCal is growing fast, I focus on welcoming those... if I know it. But I no longer try to post on every new member intro. Our "small community" has turned into a city....

At least people are posting. I think it depends on the person. Some are here only for information or looking for parts so they don't really care to make friends. Then there are others like @Law323, @Sunnier and myself who are on here all the time for more than Tundra related stuff.

My biggest peive are the ones who never post and come in to low ball the crap out of you when you try to sell something. Or when they pm a stupid ass question. Not to be mean, but at first I would respond to all and spend some time actually trying to help them, only to never hear from them again. Then I would just copy and paste the 15k threads for largest tire size so they didn't have to search. Now I don't even respond.

Too many damn intros anyways. Sometimes half the posts on the main page are intros and more important threads are pushed off the page and many never even get to see them. No one needs 20-30 “Welcome from so and so.” 50-60 if it’s a female. It’s a full time job just trying to keep up with all the intros so I stopped welcoming everyone. Please just give people a few welcomes... that’s all they need to feel welcome.

I can see where you're coming from, but also disagree. Other forums, it can take days to get a few "Welcome from XX" and here they see it, and enjoy it. (I think, anyways) I enjoy seeing how welcoming our members are and seeing new ones join.

Likewise! There are many others that I wish I can meet in person too. This forum has changed my thinking when I travel. I always think of who I know in the area that I'm heading to see if we can meet up or if I can crash a meet lol

Ha! Seriously, did I hurt your feelers?!! Definitely didn't mean to! :sorry:

I really want to stay on your good side. I hope to drive to Colorado in the not too distant future, and plan to bring you "easy to drink" fine whiskey to trade for Sean-curated, not overly-flavoured ports.

I’m not saying not to welcome them, just don’t need so many on each one. There are like 10 new members a day and if all of them made an intro and 30 people welcome each one, we would see those intros like 300 times a day! Back when I joined, no one ever got more than 5-10 “welcomes” and that was just enough to make a person feel welcome.

I get where you're coming from Hans, it seems like the natural thing to do. It used to be called 'common courtesy' but, like knowledge and sense, it's no longer common. Just my .02. That being said I now only welcome those local to me. With 1st Gens.
