I just got a minisplit installed in my shed that I use for work shop/storage.
I'm insulating the walls and putting up dry wall.

How would I go about insulating this roof/ceiling while maintaining air flow under the roof?

What do you mean by airflow under the roof?

I would insulate it just like you did the walls in that pic. Just the right size fiberglass and staple gun thos rolls in the stud . Done.

Don't I need to have airflow from the soffit to the roof cap?

Are you talking about right here? If so just cut the insulation a few inches short so as not to obstruct the gap

I'm working on similar shed now. My plan is to put rigid foam between studs with a 1" gap for airflow.

Problem around here is i cannot find the 2" thick foam in stock anywhere. My alternate plan is maybe 1/2" foam or reflective foil to maintain airgap and add furring strips to get extra depth so i can staple batts over the foam.

Am I over thinking it? Maybe just go ahead and insulated all the way up and encapsulate.

It really depends on where you plan to install your ceiling. If your ceiling will be where the light fixture, then you have space for gable end vents and then I wouldn’t worry about airflow from the soffits. If you plan on having a ceiling all the way up, then you’ll have to settle for using rigid insulation with less r value to keep airflow. But with a metal roof, I don’t think I would worry about airflow all that much.

I would have to do more structural work to make the ceiling at light level and I would loss that loft. Think I'm going to go against the roof and not worry about airflow. Thanks for the input guys!

Thats a great project, are the soffits vented every third row and what about the ridge? air flow will help and can do it a number of ways. A 3 1/2" bat will allow air to move freely. What kind of humidity do you have?

Fiberglass will hold moisture if the air sweats, if you have a Lowes in your area RockWool unfaced bats are excellent and will repel moisture while giving you a decent R value... its also fire resistant.

I'm in SC so humidity is like walking out side in a hot wet sweater.
I contacted the manufacturer, he told that the liner under the steel roof will give it plenty of air flow and he pointed out that I don't have condensation inside now so it's doing it's job already. He pointed out that our carport will drip condensation, yet the shed doesn't.

Thanks for the input guys. :hattip:
