So this is mainly for those that have owned both the 07-13 and the 14+ Tundra. Since my '12 got totaled this week I'm in the market for another one. I know I am going to take this opportunity to make a few changes, mainly upgrade to the 5.7 instead of doing the 4.6 as I tow too much and I will do a crewmax instead of the double cab as my son is not getting any smaller. With that said, whom of you have had both, which do you prefer, and why? It will be my daily and I have a 20ft enclosed trailer I pull with my MR2 in it to shows and races. I loved my '12 and it was a good truck. Had everything I wanted except a better sound system and the extra UHMPH the 5.7 will get me while towing up the hills and all. Is the 14+ that much better to jump up into or should I be ok staying with the 12-13.

I've owned both, get the 5.7 and don't look back. Bluetooth, more towing capacity, and the MPG is actually good with HWY tires. I traded in a 2013 with the 4.6L I bought new, for a 2018 with the 5.7L .I tow a large aluminum V-8 jet boat all summer and till snow for fishing. The added torque is awesome and the ride is also better. It's totally stock but for the tires and bed cover. It was last year's model on clearance for lots less. Hope that helps. DC vs CC? Quit feeding your son and get the DC.?

Take your grab handle off the driver side. You will miss it in the new model 14+ unless your buying a new handle.

I was in your same spot, I upgraded from my ‘12 to a ‘19. Definitely go with 5.7 and if it’s in your budget get it 4x4.

    I had an 08 and bought a 17.

On the 08 the rear seats had sliders and the top reclined and could be made in to a bed. On my 17 seats fold up Only and no longer slide so no storage behind the seats. Most of the newer trucks don’t come with driver side grab handle if that bothers you. My 08 had the throttle more sensitive all the time, now you have to hit the tow/haul button to experience the power. One thing that really got me was the moved the rear window switch from the right side of the steering wheel to the left. Why I have no idea but they are jackasses lol. Besides that hmmm everything seems the same.

Bought an '07 brand new, it was totaled back in November, replaced with a '17. Both 5.7L(get the bigger engine) DC. Pretty similar other than some cosmetics. I do miss the drivers side grab handle from the '07 and I like the body of the '17 a little better. I have raised 2 boys from babies with a DC, plenty of room. I personally don't like the CM because of the short bed, not really useful for my needs (I know I'm in the minority). I prefer to sacrifice cab space for bed space. Did I mention get the 5.7L

If you dont want all of the new safety sense / nanny technology stick with 2017 or older. The 2018s and newer all come with Toyota Safety Sense. No other major changes that I'm aware of between 2017 and 2018 but could be wrong on that.

I'd test drive a newer one and a used one just to see. The toyota safety sense has been causing some guys headaches. Truly they are just minor annoyances to me (pre collision sensor goes on the fritz from time to time) but if you're super OCD it might keep you up at night like some of the others.

After mine was totaled I debated new or used. I had a good deal on a new '18 through a friend of my brother, then I found my '17 used Toyota Certified one owner with 12,500 miles on it. Glad I went with it as others have mentioned some issues on the TSS on '18 and newer. If your into a little more tech go new, if not find a good '17 or older, there are some deals out there that will save you some money if you are patient.

I had a 12, and now a 14. Both purchased new. I would be leery on the 18+ right now with all of the TSS bugs that some seem to be getting; but if you can wrap your head around that as they work on a fix, you’ll be fine.

Thanks for the input everyone. I ended up finding a truck locally unlike the last one where I had to drive 2+ hours to get it. Here it is: 2015 5.7 crewmax Limited 2wd. Love it!

Going to do a few mods like tow mirrors and the ESP brake controller mount to start with. Then ditching the drop in bed liner to go with spray in.
