I just bought a 2017 tundra trd pro and i saw on the display it only has like 6.7 MPG and when i drive it my 'distance to empty' drops like a rock. it has a K&N intake i don't know if its because of that or something else, but with that too low MGP thats kinda freak me out.
Any susgestions pls? im a new member by the way.

it had 6700~ miles when i bought it and it already had the intake, but i dont think the intake makes decrease the MGP.

Depends on how heavy your foot is... my mpg dropped initially, but recovered a bit once a eased up at stoplights. That is really low though :notsure:

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
Sounds like the exact same thing I had when I got mine. I figured it to be the new intake and the dealership doggin' it around in quick stop/go traffic.
Have you check the filter/box assembly?
I've got the S&B filter system...similar to K&N. Shortly after bringing it home I cleaned the air filter and MAS. I went 8.4 to 13.2!!
I also do this at every oil change.
    1.) Disconnect the battery
    2.) Unplug the MAS
3.) Remove, Clean, dry and re-oil filer
4.) Disconnect the tube between the filter assembly box and the intake.
5.) Put some painters tape over the intake to keep out any debris
6.) Get some CRC MAS cleaner. IMO you only need about 10-15 secs worth of spraying, in 5 sec bursts with a 5-10 secs in between. No matter how much you spray, ALWAYS spray in the direction of the air flow.
    7.) Reassemble in reverse order

+1, on idling. My MPGs take a big hit sitting in stop and go traffic. Have you reset the display?

That's way low. Maybe the previous driver towed a lot and you haven't reset the MPG? Either way, hand calc it for a couple of tanks then compare it with the computer.

The computer shows 2.5mpg more than I actually get, so yours may be reading lower, but my miles remaining seem to be pretty accurate, so not sure. Before I try and fix a problem, I'd make sure you have one, by filling up, reset your mpg reading and one of your trip odometers. Next time you fill up, compare them, and go from there.

Just for comparison, my 2012 platinum got 13.5 mpg when I lived in stop&ago traffic in ft. Laud., jumped to 15 when I moved to NC. Now my 2015 pro gets 14 in NC, stock.

My computer has been off on the high side by about 3 tenths every time I check against odometer. I only check it manually when I know I have not towed anything.

First thing is that display on your dash is notorious for being inaccurate. Run a couple tanks and calculate mileage by hand to see what the mpg really is.
Second, welcome to the forum from AZ!

Welcome bud. First clear the mpgs. Scroll to the mpg screen and hold down the disp button. Next do a manual calculation after your next fill up.

Great advice so far. I'd start with low hanging fruit as suggested with clearing mpg screen and calculating by hand.

Then I'd clean the MAF and ditch the K&N for a paper filter. I've seen K&N oil residue literally drip off of MAF's when I sprayed them with MAF Cleaner and where very fine particle dust is concerned like those of us who spend a lot of time on gravel roads, tests have shown the K&N's don't catch it all.

K&N sells a filter cleaner. I usually make a soaking solution with Simple Green. Whatever method, rinse with gentle water flow from hose, opposite airflow! The idea is to move debris out, opposite way it came in.
I usually let it dry 12-24 hours, before re-oiling. I then let the oil set for a few hours before reinstalling.
If your filter is designed to be an oiled filter, then yes....you need/should oil it.
