If you had your chrome grill surround paint matched how is it holding up?

I have a collision body shop that was actually recommended by the dealership I got my tundra from willing to paint my chrome grill surround cement to match the truck.

However I am very torn with this only because I am not certain how this will hold up? If you have had this done, how is yours holding up? I imagine the grill takes a good beating from road debris and other stuff so that is my concern.

I was told by roman that his guys will not even attempt it. Therefore, I am not even going to do it. I would rather have the crappy looking chrome than a shotty paint job. Best bet is to just score an already paint matched grill and have it matched to your truck.

I painted mine and it's held up very well so far. Took the chrome off first though.

Theorizing here, so give me some rope.
It’s not chrome. It’s a plastic finish. Prep it properly and use quality materials/workmanship, and it should hold up fine. We have to assume though, dark colors commonly show more damage, and such things can’t skew the result. Black Cadillacs look great new and polished, but unkept, look horrible.

No worries. Chrome will return when the designers run out of creative steam. Once popular, people will return. Car interior/exterior design is a lot like women’s fashion.

    Anxious for photos.

Gets rock dings like anything else on the front of my truck. Painted the chips, done. Certainly not peeling off anywhere. Prep the crap out of it, and no problem.

The chrome on the plastic doesn’t work well with paint ever. Not even scuffed up. Let the chrome plastic sit in a basin of bleach. It will break down the chrome coating over time, dissolving it. Your left with raw white plastic. They make plastic adheasion promoter products to adhere paint properly to plastic as well, such as duplicolor (if your wanting rattle can options) Then just spray like you would with anything else. Just like you would with anything else just wrap it in 3m after. Good for the life of the truck. Another option is a smooth type color matched bedliner such as durabak.

And yes it is chrome plated plastic. Just like chrome plated steel. Same stuff, same plating process. Just over plastic instead of steel.
