Weird issue I’m seeing here. My idle drops down to 600 but surges back up to 800-900 then drops again...happens in park and does it w/ or w/o AC on. I’ve cleaned the TB and MAF and had my mechanic clean the TB. Still doing it. Disconnected battery cables and touched them together for a min after the clean.

Anyone have any ideas? Sometimes when it hits 600 RPMs it sounds like it wants to die.

If I’m not in Park and at a stop with foot on the brake the idle is normal. Noticed this after my ABS module was replaced (not sure if that would make a difference).

    Are your spark plugs good?
Obviously I don’t know the mileage on them.

I guess I was thinking more along the line of a possible clogged/dirty fuel filter or injector. Where at really low pressure (idle) it disrupts the flow enough to drop the RPMs but at high pressures (under acceleration) it flows just fine.

I read somewhere on another post that sometimes the the position sensor on the pedal can get confused since the throttle is commanded by the ecu and works off of voltage readings. Don’t want to get into the weeds of how It all functions, but basically there is a sensor on the peddle, read by the ecu, it’s position changes voltage signal to ecu. If it is not reading just right you get a fluctuation and rough idle. Affect are mainly seen at idle because if you think about, the peddle is depressed more when driving and those minor differences in readings to the ecu are not serious enough to be visible. Over time, not using the peddle at full throttle can sometimes cause the ecu or peddle sensor adjust itself for the lack there of. It mentions to try the following to help the ecu relearn and correct the reading...

    1. Sit in driver seat and turn the key ignition to on, but don’t start it ( think that is 2 clicks on the key)
    2. Slowly depress the accelerator peddle in a smooth motion all the way to the floor, release slowly, and repeat 6 times. Each time slowly and consistently to the floor and back up again.
    3. Turn the ignition off, then start the vehicle.

supposedly this runs the sensor and ecu through the full reading and solves the confusion.

i can’t speak for it working, but worth a shot. Nothing to loose with trying it. Hope it works for you. Please post back results.

    Mine does this as well.
It's very subtle, but I have noticed it.

Anyone figure this out? I have a brand new 2021 tundra that is idling up and when stopped at a light or drive thru, seems to only do it while in drive and stopped. When I try the reset ecu trick posted it does work sometimes....but it always comes back. I'm going to send it in for service soon....it is very annoying. Thanks

When I purchased my truck in Dec. it had very high idle @ start up. Took to Dealer & service manager said Bla,Bla,Bla, sensor was stuck. Not sure what they adjusted but since has worked ok

I have the same issue, turned out my secondary air pump valve seized, they replaced it and it has gotten better, but it still comes back once a while.

Nope. I read somewhere an exhaust leak will do it but I haven't looked too hard to find one.

At 55k miles, unlikely spark plugs are the issue. Could also be an old/bad batch of fuel. Change fuel filter, dump a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner (12$ at Walmart) and take the mrs on a road trip somewhere at 70+ mph for a couple hours.

If your ABS module was just replaced, it could be the alternator or battery is showing signs of getting tired after the battery was discharged during the transplant. Run a charge test as well to rule that out.

I'm at 91k, bought it at 89k. I was thinking of pulling a plug or two to visually inspect them. Hadn't thought about the fuel filter though. No ABS module replacement that I'm aware of, however, the battery has a 2020 date and looks pretty old.

    Thank you
