I'd like to apologize to the 2022 owners..

This is my formal apology to any 2022 owners I've offended.

I've been ragging on you guys saying the 2022 Tundra is ugly and plagued with issues.
Although I talked to my service guy today and he did confirm a lot of issues.
He advised me not to buy a Gen 3 for at least 2 years.

BUT, that being said, I finally got to sit in a 2022 today.
Although it was an SR5, with cloth seats and without power, it was fairly comfortable.
I would imagine a leather power seat would be better.
I know my wife would like the 2022 interior more than my 2014, but she's a snob and drives a Cadillac.
The windshield is very short, but I would get used to it.

This truck was a SPORT model, the only one I would buy.
The color-matched grille makes the truck look A LOT better than the chrome or silver mustache.
As well I hate the chrome pieces in the rear bumper, those being color matched (or even black) help too.

I didn't drive it, they offered, but there was no point in it.
I'm not going to buy one anytime soon.
I was only there to get an update on my cat parts delivery.

I could see myself buying an SR5 with an upgraded package (leather, seat heaters, etc) or a Limited if there is a sport model.

SO I'll stop saying the 2022 Tundra is ugly.
It's still problem-plagued, but Toyota will work all that out in the 5 to 7 years it will be before I buy one.

    I'm sorry.:(

    Enjoy your Gen 3s...:D:thumbsup:

Will enjoy the hell out of mine once it gets here.

Between my wife and I we have owned 16 Toyota’s and 2 Jeeps , a Raptor and a GMC Yukon at4 in the last 19 years together. From squeaks and rattles to lemon laws I’ve had it all. They are all pieces of shit and break.

22 Trd pro here I come!

I don't actually own a 3rd gen but briefly thought about buying one. Therefore your comments were also deeply hurtful and offensive to me as well and I demand an apology.

No, upon reflection an apology is not adequate. A bottle of Double Eagle Rare would go a long way toward calming my damaged sensitivities however.

By the way, what parts does your cat need? I can probably get you some cat parts around here. We have lots of them.

    1. Whatever…
2.I’m sure your service advisor is a qualified expert…or not, making 30k a year to check in peoples cars for service.Yeah, definitely follow his expert advice.
    3. What do you mean “it”? As if all tundra are affected. Mine runs perfectly.

Ok, I tried to be nice.

    1. Fu(k you
    2. My service advisor works for my Toyota dealer (yes he is an expert) and he makes a lot more than $30K.
When the 2022s come in with issues, he is the one that gets them fixed.
He is the one that knows how many 2022 Tundras come into his shop needing repairs (and what repairs they need), and there are a shitload of them.
There are no HIPAA rules that prevent him from telling me about 2022 Tundras and their warranty issues.
So him telling me to hold off a Gen 3 is because he knows how many come in needing repair and what those repairs are.
    3. I never stated every 2022 has issues.
I stated many do as told to me by the guy that deals with it for a living, as well as reading the MULTIPLE threads on the forum made by 2022 owners..

I've known my SA for 13 years, he is the reason I bought my 2014 from this dealer, AND when and if the time comes, he is why I'll buy a Gen 3 from them.

Your 2022 runs perfectly, SO FAR, and I hope it continues to do so.

    So GFYM, Sir....................
    AND welcome to the forum..:D:thumbsup:

This claim is already paid for by my insurance.
Toyota is paying for my rental 2021 Tacoma until all the parts come in.
That rental bill is already up to over $6K excluding the $1500 the insurance paid for.
The only part they are waiting for is the passenger side cat, they have everything else.

I'm on day 185 driving the Tacoma.
But I'm actually saving money driving this Tacoma.
19 MPG vs under 14 mpg I get in my Tundra...

That thing has been killing me since I saw the first promo adds and user vids. But lately, there have been some members doing some classy mods and improvements, suspension and tires mostly, and I have a new attitude. But not for the first year or two on new production as far as for me.

Pretty much what my service rep told me.
Give it 2 years for Toyota to figure out the issues and fix them, then on to fix them in production.

Fine by me, it's gonna be 5 or 6 years before I consider buying one anyway.
Gotta save the money up to pay cash for it.
It sure is nice not having a vehicle payment..:D

And maybe by then the dummies will have figured out some tow hooks. That slap in the face to truck users has me bitter to no end. I’m not getting over it with time either. I won’t buy one without them, and I’m not cutting up the front of a brand new truck to install an offroad bumper with recovery points. Even that, cutting up the bumper is now necessary to install one due to their stupid car-like integrated design.

Ouch, as these news articles pile up, Toyota needs to solve this QC stuff for good before the court of public opinion gains too much steam. It’s odd they haven’t had a real fix besides putting in the same new turbo , weather strips etc

I have my cash ready for when they solve all this

So somewhat related, I recently visited one of my local Toyota dealers in north Georgia where they had four 2022 Tundras on the lot. The very nice salesman told me straight up that all for we’re pre-owned trucks that they had purchased via auction. He said due to the low allocation that Southeastern Toyota (SET) had been provided to date, this was how they were getting trucks for their lot. So, not only we’re these trucks used (mileage ranged from less than a 1k miles to nearly 10k miles), they were asking WAY over MSRP for a brand new truck! I believe the Platinum and the 1794 were in the $84k range! I suggested that they were probably trucks that had had wastegate issues and were bought back by the original dealer/Toyota, but he didn’t know.

I was there just to look at the different models and told the guy that I was waiting on the ‘23 models to come out, but will not likely go back knowing they are adding major dealer markup. I was wowed alright!

Although my tundra is a 2015, and I have never considered buying a gen3 tundra, your apology is accepted. I appreciate your consideration and am glad that you acknowledge that you need to go through life apologizing. Yep, you are off to a great start. Now, you can apologize for the slugs in our garden and my tundras poor mileage…

Do you know the one thing that makes my bad back feel better?
Sitting in and driving that rental/loaner Tacoma.
I don't know why that is?

My pain is worse in the mornings when I get out of bed.
I had to jump out of bed this morning and go pick up a special order toilet from Lowes.
We forgot to do it this weekend.
My back was hurting standing waiting in Lowes.
Drove home, got out of the Tacoma, and noticed my back felt much better.

That happens every day when I drive to work as well.
Sitting in that Tacoma on the 15-minute drive to work, it always feels better than when I got in the truck.
If one can call a Tacoma a truck, it's more like a gocart with a bed on it..

    I know why.

the engine is so weak and the trans programming so awful, you have to Fred Flintstone it to get it moving and all that extra workout makes your back feel better.

ok. Everyone has their opinion AND facts to support a not so great 2022 tundra year. OK…. There are many examples of why one should NOT buy a 2022 Tundra. I respect those opinions and the facts that back them up. So with that said, Having driven Toyota trucks since 1975 I have seen and worked my way through some pretty rough new edition truck years. Only difference between those and this one is one thing. Social Media and the amount of visible comment people are able to witness. It’s overwhelming for some. I bought a 2022. I love it. I’d do it again hands down. That shouldn’t make me what ever you feel like calling me. No. I am a loyal Toyota truck guy. Just like the guy that swears by his F150, Ram or AT4. your negative comments are indicative of the source. I own my opinion regardless of whether my truck breaks or not. This is a great venue for talking about this truck. I like it here. Hopefully most of us do as well. ツ

Gee whiz, I hope you read my OP and not just the post you quoted.
I certainly don't recall referring to you by any name whatsoever.

My point is not to slam Toyota, I actually apologized to you 2022 owners in the OP, if you read it.

I've been driving Toyotas since 1996:
    97 4X4 4Runner 9 years 96K miles
    2005 Tundra 10 years 110K miles
2014 Tundra 8 years 85K miles (so far)
Extended warranties on all 3 that were never used.
The only major issue with any of them was the air pump disintegrating on the 2005 at 95K miles and that ended up being a known issue with that engine.
When that happened my current dealer, whom I didn't even buy the truck from, gave me a free loaner while they fixed it

    My negative 2022 comments come from 3 sources;
    1. Comments on this forum from actual 2022 owners. There are new posts DAILY with 2022 issues.
    2. From the service department of my local dealership, you know, the people that have to FIX the issues with the 2022 Tundras.
    3. I have eyes and can see what I do or don't like about the new body style. The only Gen 3 I would buy would have to be a sport with everything color matched.
Granted number 3 is just my personal opinion, 1 and 2 are stated facts.

I'll probably end up buying a Gen 3 in several years.
As well I would bet Toyota will make several changes to the Gen 3 by the time I buy one.
They change something every year on the Tundra.

At 85k miles on my 2014, it's going to be a while before I sell it or trade it in.
It sure is nice not having a vehicle payment.
I've spent well over $20K in mods making my 2014 exactly what I want it to be, I love it.
I'm sure Toyota will have the Gen 3 major issues worked out by the time I purchase one in 5 or 6 years.

I'll be glad to get my 2014 back from the Toyota dealership someday, they've had it for 188 days waiting for my catalytic converters to come in from God knows where.
My dealer has 35 Tundras and Sequoias on the lot waiting for cat parts.
But I don't blame Toyota for that, since we don't do politics here, no need to start that conversation.
Toyota is paying for my loaner/rental 2021 Tacoma, that bill is up to $6k already.
I couldn't ask for more than that and have no issues with Toyota as a whole.

I'm glad you haven't had issues with your 2022, hopefully you won't.
Granted if you do, they will fix it, and hopefully give you a free loaner as well if needed.
If you haven't bought a catalytic converter shield for your 2022, I strongly suggest you do so.
Anytime you take that drive to Abilene you're putting the cats at risk of theft.

Welcome to the forum, I'm glad you like it here, as I do as well.
    Good luck to you.

I would bet it's the seating position between the two trucks. The Tacoma will have a lower position in relation to the pedals versus the Tundra. I will say that the after putting in those "Seat Jackers" my back has been better.

I just installed the seat jackers in my 2015 CM. I like the sitting position they provide on the driver's seat. Just for reference, I am 6'0" tall with about a 34" inseam. I did move the seat forward some. The passenger seat is a different result as my wife usually sits there. She is 5'2" and now her feet don't touch the floor. On our trip this past weekend she just was not as comfortable as she was before the seat jackers. I'll be removing and selling the one from that seat.
@1lowlife that could be a gamechanger for you regarding your back issues and the Tundra. How does your back do in your work truck and the seating position in it? DM me if you would like to try the seat jacker after you get your truck back. I'm sure we can work something out.

Its really ugly on the outside, nothing like big bulky look that the 2 and 2.5 gen had, but its still a mean truck. I will probably buy one sometime in the futre. Maybe when the V8 TT comes out.
