Buddy of mine got a brand new 2019 gmc seirra AT4 4x4. Truck came leveled from factory with good year wrangler duratracks and I think the truck has 9 cameras. The interior is super nice and all the surfaces are soft touch. Has pretty good room for a crew cab but not even close to our trucks. Overall it’s a nice truck. 64k is what he paid for the truck. I couldn’t believe it. A 1/2 ton truck costing that. But even with all of the bells and whistles that it has it’s still a GM product. My truck just feels solid. A lot more than his. Not to mention my whole back window rolls down. Hehe. I will take reliability and ruggedness over the new GM trucks that come with a tampon dispenser in them.

My last pickup was a Sierra 2500 Duramax. Paid a small fortune for it. It was very capable. What I didn't like, the truck's computer actually prioritized the Diesel Exhaust Fluid over gasoline. You could be low on gas and keep driving, but if that DEF got low, the computer would speed limit the truck and eventually not let you drive. Still, I drove it for a couple years. Took good care of it. But I felt that it aged very quickly.

This truck was still under warranty when it began to make a loud, persistent buzzing buzzing / winding noise. GM told me they didn't know what it was. I called around, two local dealer service shops were familiar with the problem, but they wouldn't say much, and neither would do anything about it. One of them told me to just keep driving it and the sound would go away! It left a foul taste in my mouth. So I got rid of it.

Then at the end of 2017, I paid $31k for a brand new Tundra SR5. Pretty bare bones, but not $60k, and I'm a lot more confident about keeping this one long term.

Yeah but did he get the eletrical outlets, LED lights, cup holder and step down tail gate that doesn't work if the battery dies?

    I like your attitude.

My neighbor had a GMC: transmission went out at like 90,000 miles.

But, yeah, those tailgates are special. Often, I have laid awake at night dreaming of a tailgate that I could contort into different shapes like a balloon animal. SO FUN.:puke:

Is it weird that I’m happy with HVAC, power windows, a stereo that works decently and 4 x 4? Basically a truck that just works?

You guys crack me up. Always the “I didn’t pay 60k+ for my truck”...

No shit, you have an SR5. Now go buy a platinum/limited and actually compare apples to apples.

Please go disconnect your Tundra battery, simulate a dead battery. Please let me know what works on your Tundra. You all know this is an open forum right? Can you imagine if a GM site was laughing if a Tundra battery dies, the truck won’t work? No...you don’t say...

So I’m other words, you would have a basic trim truck in any brand. Got it.

Well, yeah. I was late to the party here and my post was only contemplating spending 60K on a truck, regardless of manufacturer. I'll leave you to your apples/oranges argument with other commenters.

Don’t get me wrong. Love the Tundra and would buy one again in a heartbeat. Never left me stranded.

Then again, the only one time a vehicle left me stranded (out of 30+ vehicles) was my Audi...and it was my fault.

    Like what?

Since we are talking about a top of the line GM product, what does the GM offer that a Platinum/1794 Tundra doesn’t, and please show some reasonable documentation of the failures of said technology.

I think we had somene post a video about this power lift tail gate. Guy asked the GM dude what happens when the battery is dead. Response was something about getting a friend to jump you. They confirm the tail gate is locked if the battery is dead and you can't open it without power.

Well if you have an electric motor hooked to the tailgate, kinda makes sense now doesn’t it. Guess how many batteries have died in my daily drivers since 14 years old? Zero. I take care of them.

What do you need in the bed for anyway? If it’s not covered, and most hard covers have keyed access anyway, can someone not step over the tailgate? Asking for a friend.....
