My wife of a quarter century, my son of 17 years, and my own self all drive the same power plant. The boy is in an 07 4Runner Limited w/ 120k miles, I'm low man on the totem pole with an 04 Tundra double cab sporting 225k miles, and just bought the wife an 04 Lexus GX 470. Paid over blue book for it after searching for a year, and I'm certain to be skewered by the purists on this forum for doing so. But it is almost mint with 85k miles so I'm not sure I could have done better for a vehicle with those features and that pedigree. In short, we are a 4.7L V-8 family.

Anyway, the wife and kid are locked and loaded with their rigs, which are mechanically sorted and cosmetically yummy so yours truly is now doing a facelift on the Tundra. It's an SR5 w/ leather and a sunroof, and I've freshened the paint and the interior to the point where I'm motivated to gussy her up a bit more. Never really done this before but this truck has been so over-the-top reliable and STILL mechanically sound that the thought of discarding it seems absurd. That, and the violent "sticker shock" at newer truck prices just makes me want to pull a Kramer/Seinfeld and see how far past the "E" me and this li'l red truck can go.

I will post this request on the appropriate forum, but want to put it out here first in case someone can direct me to the answers within the labyrinth of knowledge on this site. I'd like to LED the lighting (maybe even a color change to blue... if it doesn't defeat the purpose of interior lighting), and have the obligatory small bulb burnouts on the transmission indicators which need replacing. I just want to know what bulbs work and which ones to avoid because so many lots on ebay and Amazon are mislabeled for compatibility. I'm in the process of returning some headlight LEDs which were labeled as compatible with ALL of my vehicles, so of course they fit none! Oy....

Before I get into a vicious cycle of purchases and returns, would someone just sort of walk me through what fits and what doesn't fit if I want to purchase LEDs for dash lights, interior lights, door lights, and even your experiences and suggestions with exterior lights. Thanks so very much in advance for any info you can provide, and for allowing me to join this forum.

There are lots of threads on here about led interior lighting. You can do an advanced search under 1st gen tundras for those. Buying on Amazon may require multiple purchases of different brands get what you want. Keep in mind, with LEDs, they will be very bright and often not dimmable, not great for driving at night.
You can often times JB weld over some of of the leds if there are multiple on the same bulb or sharpie over them to lessen the brightness.
I would recommend an assortment of 12V single led bulbs for electronics experiments for the gear indicators (use existing base).
    Good luck.

I think you meant to say that you are old enough now to appreciate quality when you see it?

Also Congrats on the GX,My Sister is looking for a new one now too.
Try not to do this with yours!

And yes it protected her too and she crawled out through the Sunroof!

Hey Dantanna. Welcome from West Texas. I got my interior and exterior LEDs from SuperBrightLeds.com. Great customer service and great selection. I did fog lights, interior dome lighting, reverse and license plate lights from them. Decent prices and quality product, plus they have decent sales from time to time. Might have paid a little more than what you’d find on Amazon or eBay, but I didn’t want a handful of cheap LEDs like I had done for my wife’s Mini Cooper. The website was easy to use, and customer service was too notch. All bulbs come with a 3 year warranty I believe, and I thought a fog burned out, so I emailed them. They sent me a return label, but it turned out to be a bumpy road loosened the bulb assembly. Overall, they get 5 out of 5 stars in my book, and would order from them again in a heartbeat.

Wow! I am not on any sort of social media because to be frank I think it’s the most toxic thing ever foisted on humanity. But I must say this forum Has been a wonderful surprise. Thanks so much for all the info, and I definitely have what I need to start upgrading my lighting.

Here’s a quick question for those involved in this discussion. Why on earth doesn't every pick up truck manufacturer incorporate an electric sliding rear window? Of all the great features of my tundra I find this one to be irreplaceable. I know that the new crew maxes offer it but not many other trucks if any have this as an option. I love the new crew Max And comparatively it is very reasonably priced to other full-size pick ups. However, as a person with zero debt, and zero mortgage, the thought of a pseudo-mortgage payment for a new truck makes me mental.

Welcome aboard. Since I'm your position in several circles except I'm trying to move out of California and my boys are older, I'll respond to your query. Blue interior lights in the LED variety are wonderful. My wife is always turning them on when I'm hauling ass down the highway at night and I haven't put my glasses on (just graduated from readers) yet. Big relief. I don't care how long she leaves them on. Night vision is better and my experience has been that red isn't any better, and washes out colors on screens and instrumentation.

As far as why domestic trucks don't include a rear slider...I'd bet it's because they want to build fast and cheap. They probably also figure the warranty repairs from their fast and cheap mentality would complicate the concept. Chevy had a suburban in the late 80s that rolled down into the tailgate, but they kept breaking when people let the tailgate drop...because dampeners are apparently to difficult. Lol.

Good to see your in a reputable brand. All those vehicle s will serve you well. Yes social media is completely toxic and I don't need to "docu-drama” my life to the world.

As far as headlights, I've had success with Morimoto. I don't trust chinese products, and feel the Japanese have a better reliability and track record with their equipment. I can't say for certain what's available for your truck, but oem upgrades or Morimoto would be a goal.

    Hope this helps.

Electric rear windows being standard would not give the ability to have it as a pricey option...also, less of a headache to fix, although I sure as heck would love one.
The nice thing about this forum, is we have one major thing in cooking. A love of Toyota’s. And a lot of the other b.s. is rightfully not posted and very well monitored and asked to not be posted. This forum should be a place to get a break from reality and enjoy each other’s company and love of Yotas.

Nice looking fleet you have there. I'm not sure Toyota made a more dependable drivetrain than the 4.7, its just unstoppable. Welcome

Beautiful stable you have there! The standardization across everybody's vehicles must make maintenance a breeze for you. As @Darkness said, hit up the first gen section of the forum with any questions. Those guys have some seriously impressive wrenching under their belts, and a good sense of humor. You'll like it there.
