Quick turnaround by the diff shop on this locker, re-gear. I can’t pick it up until Monday, but I’m excited.

This rig / build is killer, I'd like to see it in person some time. I'm down in HB but don't have any 'Social Medieval', but if there's ever a Gen 1 meet-up, shoot me a DM & I'd like to roll.

That central coast is pretty sweet. I’m guessing there are some great options available inland…

Love the look of the lower tube, nicely done!

Also, what did you end up doing with deavers?

Bled the brakes and added diff oil. First break in run with the 4.88 gears. 20 minutes, maybe 6-8 miles. All grandma style and for the most part under 40MPH. Gears are quiet so far. The diff housing was too hot to comfortably hold a hand on it when I parked. Take your new gears break in seriously...

    No leak.

Doing the harness install. Well over an hour of Dremel and hand file, but the switch went in nicely.

Pretty hard to tell because I’m limited to easy driving. Can’t go highway yet and can’t punch it during break in. Everything I can tell, it feels tight and very connected. A lot of that is likely just the higher RPMs. I’m on a 32 and don’t have any immediate plans to go to 33. So I think I’m going to find I’m on the far end of the torque scale and low on the economy.

@alb1k Curious to why can't you hit the freeway? Did you do anything different to the gears beside changing them?

That's all I do is freeway driving. That's the only way I travel to work, from Lakewood to El Segundo. After 500 miles, I changed the fluid and it's been fine. As for mileage, I'm averaging 17 MPG's with 4.88's on 34's.

So I’ve looked into it quite a bit. Strict break in is 20 min around town, stop and cool until cold. Do that two more times and then the rest of the 460-475 miles keep it below 45, vary speed limit how much you travel at once. Don’t tow or step on it hard. My diff guy said just drive it around town for 500. The thing is to not let it get to hot. The oil can break down creating more heat and you can kill the gears. It’s not such a big deal with a new car because the pinion is bigger and has less stress on it and creates less heat. But that 500 mile break in for the engine is also for the diff.

I can say the first 20 minutes I did the diff was very hot.
