I have located a frame for a truck that is identical to mine. It will cost me $2600.00 with free delivery to a business location. I am wonder what is an amount I should expect to pay for the labor. I have attached pictures of my black truck and the blue truck that the frame will come out off. I was told that the $2600.00 was for the complete frame. I assuming that includes the subframe and any other parts that would be needed to attach the frame.

If you're not doing this swap yourself, be prepared to be shocked. You also need lots of other new parts based on your pictures. Your rear diff cover is toast. Brakes and shocks will likely crumble when you try to have them switched over. Every bolt will fight you and many will snap. This will be expensive, on the order of $7-8k I would imagine. Not sure I would spend $10k on truck that is worth barely that even in today's crazy market.

A very pretty penny in the range of $5K-$10K, more like upper range close to $10K.

It also looks like the blue truck was rolled. How do you know the frame isn't bent? I would be skeptical.

The only way a frame replacement makes sense financially is if you are doing the work yourself.

$2600?? Isn't that the price of a new frame. Wow. Seems like they hiked up prices on the used.

I say round it off to $3K and have them toss in the rear axle if it's in good condition, backing plates and all.

well a new frame from Toyota is not possible from what I have found. There website says the frame I’m looking for has been discontinued. It does say it cost around $5700 and that’s not to have it installed. I was told there was no frame damage. The company that I talked to would probably give me the vin number and I might be able to find out what damages were reported from the insurance.

The only person I know on here I know that's done a body-to-frame swap is @t.mcginley.jr

That said, rather than swap the frame from the other truck, maybe swap the body from your auction truck (if you've no intent to file suit against the auction house, which I think you should) onto the donor truck. Granted - still a chunk of damn work, lots of wire-related reloc, and lots of risk of electrical gremlins/shit not working after, but ...

I think others above have nailed it. Mr. McGinley can probably give you a roundabout on what hours, trials, and tribulations he ran into. I think it's going to translate to $8-12k if done by someone else. I'm not sure if dealership is an option, but ...

Are you sure you're not just adding to your losses instead of cutting your losses? You can buy a new sub-150k mile truck that's rust-free down here in Atlanta for that much money.

The bright side of it is you'll become a Mr. 1st gen wrench with a plethora of tools, and know more than most here when your done! But if your going to pay someone to do the swap, you'll pay more than you imagined for total labor hours and part replacement cost. I'll bet that job will nickel dime you to death before the job's finished.

I know of three 2006 Tundras w/o problem in GA that a mechanic fixed for resale. He has a three stall garage in the back and a portion in the back for body work. I was told they range from 8,500 to 10,500. Pics of them look good w/o damage along with having good paint. Even though the BB is half of that, in today's market those Tundras would be cheaper to buy than pay parts and labor cost for someone to swap out frames. Too many guys out there with poor work ethics repeatedly remind many of the true to word saying, "if you want something done right then you'll have to do it yourself." Paying someone beside a dealership doesn't guarantee everything will be put together factory right. Think this project through before thinking you will save cash doing this. Good luck

Where in GA are these three tundras? I would like to find a first gen tundra but I think I should have gotten one years ago.

I am still looking into a way to get my money back but I am having a hard time finding someone to even talk to about it. If you know of anyone who would be able to help or give me advise please let me know.

Lawyers have access to LexisNexis and similar tools, which give them access to pull names, addresses and phone numbers on about anyone and anything.

This is a case where I'd consult with a lawyer. If the auction house has made it this hard to reach a human to speak with, there's probably a reason.

Atlanta is flooded with them. This is half, maybe a third of what we often have within 50 miles of downtown ATL. Not all of these are pure southern trucks, but a lot of sellers make a point of indicating it, and if not, services like CarFax will often log the yearly registration data back to date of production, so you can figure out which states they were in and how long.

Edit: I wouldn't doubt if the ones in Loganville are what gascap is talking about. That same place adds/sells a truck every month or two and adds another one up not long before/after. They've always got 1 or 2 rotating through in the ads.

Little Rock / Memphis area usually has half a dozen or more FGT’s available. Most don’t seem to realize that everyone else thinks these things are made of unobtainium and are reasonably priced.

A female friend, down here in S FL from where I used to work, e-mailed me pics of them asking what I thought. I told her to go get one or all of them. This guy is a member of a trusted family in Jamaica that her family has known for a couple or more generations. His shop was in the background in a few of the different trks pics. I don't know where the heck he is, but in a couple of those pics you'd see he has a nice shop setup on large country property where he lives. She might be in GA now with her son or one of her nephews, or on her way back. I'll try calling or will email her tomorrow. I know they weren't 1st gen trks but are early 2nd gen trks. 5.7 engines, and two 2-wheel drives , or 3 with one having the TRD sticker on the bed. I told her where to look and what for, but to jump on it because he can't do her or family wrong. She always likes to hustle for extra change and might have bought them all only to keep one or two of them. Prices down here are through the roof.

Hunt down the recall part number frame. They were 2000-3000 and there’s still some depending on which one you need that are in stock
