I am still struggling with the multiplex issue on my truck.

On my 04 tundra, I have a bad multiplex I think, I'm shopping on Ebay because I can't afford one from the dealer, I'm finding tons of them that have a number 89221-0C030, but my unit reads 89221-0C060 will these multiplex boxes interchange?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

This is the same body control module that I posted about a few months ago I haven't had the extra money to pay the $500 For a new one from the dealer so I've been looking on eBay and I was assuming that the 89221'0060 order 89221-0C061 Were the only units that would work on my truck I was just hopeful that I was mistaken and could have purchased one of these other units in place I will keep searching I have disconnected the after market alarm system to the still have the same problem I pushed the lock button and it clicks inside the BCM or multiplex I take a meter to the output wires on the BCM And have nothing coming out that is why I'm determined that the BCM is the problem I shorted a wire that I was mistaken on as a signal wire when I was installing the alarm pausing this whole issue to begin I am a mechanic by trade but I am not as Knowledgeable on the computers and electronics of vehicles I'm more of a nuts and bolts kind of guy I will continue looking on eBay for a 89 2 21 0 c 0 6 0 or 61 If anyone has any leads on such unit please keep me posted

 

Multiplex? You mean ECU? Can you explain the problem you are having and maybe we can point you the right direction.

 

I googled that part number and it appears you are talking about the ECU. If you are sure your ECU is the problem then yes you have to match the numbers up exactly. Like I said before though if you give us your symptoms we can verify you need to seek out an ECU and may be able to find you one if you do.

 

I thought @Tundra2 had a source for used ECUs?

If true, the picture in previous thread is the Body ECU/Body Control Module(BCM) 89221-0C060 and has been replaced by 89221-0C061 and seems to be readily available at dealer for approx $500. The Body ECU is not to be confused with the ECU(Electronic Control Unit).
I personally can not answer if other BCM's can replace 89221-0C061

However, if I determined it was indeed the BCM, I would personally only buy from Toyota.

Have you attempted to remove the "aftermarket remote" and put back original hook-up and trouble shoot from there ?

Since 04 Limited came in AC or DC cab, does "quad cab" refer to AC or DC. Electrical Wiring is somewhat different in AC vs DC in case your needing to view EWD drawings for troubleshooting.

 

Nah, he just has his spare ECU. He pulled it from a vehicle on a yard.

But @BubbaW nailed it out of the park with his advice. And you're totally on-point also: Need to replace 'like' with 'like', unless the Toyota Parts system shows a supercession (updated p/n), which apparently it does, per what Bubba shared.

Main reason behind needing to use the same p/n is, trucks came with different configurations, wiring harnesses. Either because the engine is diff't, transmission is diff't, cab is different thus has different wiring for lights, sensors, doors, etc. and if you have a reg cab V6 2WD truck, you don't want to be tossing an ECU from a dbl cab V8 4WD truck, things aren't going to work as expected. Lots of little tweaks and changes across the years with body harnesses and engine too.
