Last night, the wife and I decided to go through a drive thru for a quick dinner. There was about 3 cars ahead of me, the guy immediately in front of me was driving a new F-250. So, I pull up to the window to pay. Here's our conversation:

Girl: "The guy in front of you already paid for your food."
    Me: "Why?"
Girl: "I don't know. He just said he wanted to."
Me: "Well, that doesn't happen everyday. I tell you what, let's keep it going. Here's $20, pay for as many of the cars behind me as you can."
    Girl: "Okay. Thank You."

Stuff like that has never happened to me before. It brought a smile to my face knowing unsolicited kindness still exists. So, I decided to pay it forward. I hope the people behind me kept the trend going.

That's cool. And you paid it forward too. Spreading smiles all around. Great way to end the day.

I have had that happen to me at a subway, two guys in suits in front of me (I'm a painter) look at me as say you work harder than we do, let me buy you lunch. But saying that I have done it in restaurants a few times just buying peoples dinner. Its fun to do.

We do that at the toll booths here in Houston. Also fun to anonymously pay for a peace officer's or military person's meal at a restaurant.

Man that's awesome! I've had that happen to me and done that. It really does make your day when you realize there are still good people out there!

Not just that, but it never fails to brighten your day by helping someone else or just spread some goodness even when you don't have much at the time!

Happened a few times to me at Starbucks. I just pay for the next persons coffee behind me.

Not sure what the F250 had to do with it though :)

We had to drop my son off at LAX and stopped at an In and Out Burger. There was an USAF SGT standing in line behind us in his working uniform. I told the girl that took our order to get him what ever he was having on me, gave her a $20 and told her to keep the change from his order. Even made the wife smile. Made three people happy in one go!

Very common in the drive through at Starbucks around Christmas time. Very nice gesture for sure.

I usually just tell them at the drive through that the guy behind me is paying.

    Paying it backwards.

Similar thing happened to my wife and me at Chic-Fil-A, we both forgot our wallets and had our kids with us. We were trying to scrounge up a few dollars from our coin trays and a few stray dollars here and there. And a guy walks up and slaps down a $20 so we could all eat (we had found enough to get the kids food by that point). We were very grateful and gave him what we had.

Now I'm always on the lookout for similar situations. I've also told cashiers to give my change to the next customer a few times.

I literally LOLed after this one especially in a thread where its all hugs and kisses.

On a serious note, that is awesome. I have never had it happen to me, but I know people who have had it happen to them. Despite all that is wrong with this world, there is still so much more that is right.

I do work at Lambert St. Louis every month or so, I spent a lot of time there when in the USAF sitting in the USO waiting for a flight or ride back to Scott. I always felt for the couples going or returning from overseas with young kids - man those kids were scared and tired and even mom and dad looked whipped and a bit scared. I always threw a couple bucks in the can then and now I'll walk in give them a $10 or $20 and walk back out. I remember how nice it was then and I get a good feeling now to pay them back. https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/departments/airport/news/lambert-uso-wins-honor.cfm

We were at the California DMV to get a new ID card for my wife when we were told cash or check only. No credit cards! well I don't carry much cash and no checkbook. I was saved by the gentleman in line behind me to the tune of twenty something dollars. I tried to get his info to pay him back but he wouldn't give me any info to pay him back. Saved me a trip home (30 mile round trip) to get some cash.

that was cool of that guy to do that for ya, it does inspire us to be more kind. I received a gold coin once from a marine sergeant major when I anomalously bought a round of drinks for him and a group of marines at his table in an airport. The bartender told me the coin meant a lot to marines when they received them. It had his rank and insignia on it, it meant a lot to me to receive it.

Last time I was at Dunkin Donuts getting donuts for my cop buddy (lol) USMC was in their parking lot. I asked for 2 dozen more donuts for them.
DD refused to let me purchase the additional donuts and thanked me for requesting it. Good on DD!
